General Dynamics NASSCO-Norfolk is the consolidation of two great shipyards that have operated in the Port of Hampton Roads, Virginia for more than 50 years - the former Metro Machine Corporation and the former Earl Industries.  Along with our facilities in Bremerton, Washington, our expertise encompasses experience on more than 450 ships, a Master Ship Repair Agreement (MSRA) contract, and the maintenance and repair of aircraft carriers and ships from the Navy's amphibious fleet.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)

 

Promote a positive and empathic support environment for the organization.  Build, image, deploy, troubleshoot, diagnose and repair desktop and laptop computers from the component level. Analyze, troubleshoot, communicate and document solutions to end-user support requests as assigned. Enter support requests on behalf of users as necessary.  Prioritize support requests in assigned queue and make efficient use of time and resources.  Provide support and guidance to Tier 1 and Tier 2 personnel. Escalate support requests to the appropriate personnel as required. Act as the backup to the Help Desk Manager.  Enter client hardware and software inventory records.  Be financially responsible with company assets. Propose, lead, coordinate, participate in and complete IT projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned.

Certifications a plus, (MCP, CCNA, A+, Network +)

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear.  The noise level is this environment is usually moderate. Must be able to lift weights up to 50 pounds and be physically able to walk to all yard locations.

  

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

 

This position reports to the Help Desk Manager.  It is not a supervisory position.

  

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Adhere and enforce the company’s policies and procedures.

  • Diagnose and solve computer, network or software problems reported by users.

  • Explain complex technical concepts to end-users and company decision makers.
    Support users, computers, mobile devices and peripherals in a Windows environment coming from a variety of experience, education and certifications.

  • Maintain Active Directory and file system security for users.

  • Support the infrastructure engineers requiring a working knowledge of networking protocols, cabling standards and basic routing/switching.

  • Diagnose email problems reported by users requiring a working knowledge of email protocols, including Outlook / Microsoft Exchange and mobile platforms.

  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

 

Ensure that all Help Desk Tickets are addressed and users are kept informed of the status of those tickets.

 

 UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  1.  

Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job. Must be available to work outside of normal business hours to support Help Desk staffing requirements and to ensure systems are operational at all core hours with minimal impact on end computer system users. Must be able to have unescorted access to government facilities.  Must be able to obtain access to government work locations. A credit check will be required for this position.
