General Dynamics NASSCO-Norfolk is the consolidation of two great shipyards that have operated in the Port of Hampton Roads, Virginia for more than 50 years - the former Metro Machine Corporation and the former Earl Industries.  Along with our facilities in Bremerton, Washington, our expertise encompasses experience on more than 450 ships, a Master Ship Repair Agreement (MSRA) contract, and the maintenance and repair of aircraft carriers and ships from the Navy's amphibious fleet.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE

 

The position will include the following functions:

  • Prepares the annual budgets, long range plans, and periodic forecasting updates.
  • Tracks and monitors variances to plans.
  • Interprets detailed cost accounting information and exercises discretion and creativity on assignments of a varied, diverse and challenging nature. 
  • Assists in solving problems in areas where no precedent exists.

 

POSITION DEMANDS

 

A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other business-related field is required.  Professional designation or MBA preferred.  Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in an accounting or financial environment.  Previous analytical or reporting financial role in a public company is preferred.  Previous financial role for a government contractor, a plus.  Ability to effectively take on leadership roles in various functions is required.  Microsoft Excel expertise is required.  Deltek CostPoint experience, a plus.  Excellent analytical, conceptual, communication and interpersonal skills.  Strong initiative and ability to manage competing priorities; willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

 

Reports to the Director of Budgets, Forecasts and Rate Development.  Interfaces with senior leadership and department heads.  Maintains regular communication with Finance personnel and other company personnel as necessary.  Periodic interface with external auditors will be required.   

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Lead the 4-year operating plan cycle to include budgets by department and account, profit and loss summaries by major sales contract, divisional and company income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow.
  • Provide quarterly updates of current year financial forecasts to be reported for consolidation and public interests.
  • Investigate, analyze, interpret, and communicate budget and forecasted variances to management.
  • Continuously look for process improvements in the areas of forecasting and for cost reduction purposes.
  • Support SOX compliance efforts to include controls set-up, monitoring, and section 404 testing requirements.
  • Support the preparations and audits of incurred cost submissions, forward pricing rates, bids and proposals pricing, and all other financial-related FAR/CAS requirements as a government contractor.
  • Support corporate tax, insurance and risk management requirements, as needed
  • Develop, maintain and distribute ad-hoc reports and financial models, as needed
