SUMMARY

Perform fire protection and prevention within the shipyard and ships at NASSCO.  Provide emergency medical service.  Be first responders for hazardous material spills and be a member of the rescue team. Be a member of the shipboard fire, medical and rescue team for ships on sea trials. 

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a valid driver’s license,  Healthcare Provider CPR  certificate, and:

    Be a certified Emergency Medical Technician with valid San Diego County certification with AED and ETAD certifications

    -OR-

    Be a certified Paramedic with a California license and valid San Diego County certification and Valid ACLS certificate.

  • Current CPAT or BIDDLE physical agility certificate

  • Prefer previous firefighting experience, fire academy, fire science classes or Reserve time.
  • Must be physically able to:
  • Perform the duties of a Firefighter/EMT.
  • Lift weights up to 100 pounds 
  • Must be able to wear a self contained breathing apparatus
  • Wear various firefighting  and rescue equipment
  • Use power and hand tools
  • Climb ladders, work at heights, and operate High Reach equipment. 
  • Work in and perform confined space rescues. 
  • Pass a pre-employment and yearly physical examination.
  • Write complete, concise and legible reports. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Must conduct Fire/Safety inspections within the plant and on board ships at NASSCO.  
  • Act as First Responders at fires, medical emergencies, hazardous material spills, and rescue situations.  
  • Be a member of the shipboard fire, medical and rescue team for ships on sea trials. 
  • Responding to and investigating alarms in plant and on board ships at NASSCO. 
  • Maintain all required certifications.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

     

ACCOUNTABILITY

Responsible for post accident drug screening.  Acts as off shift Safety Representative. 

Report to shift supervisor.  Work well with others in a team environment. Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
