SUMMARY

Receipt, inspection, manual posting, and issuance of all (NPA) Navy Property Admin Items as well as NC items in the warehouse – Also support the government furnished material (GFM) and customer furnished material (CFM) for NASSCO’s repair contracts as well in the Warehouses 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Performs receipt counting, inspection, stowing, and manual/computer posting of NPA, GFM and CFM.
  • Identifies all material with specification number prior to stowage.
  • Inspector of Material for ALL new construction as well as Repair items.
  • Prepares nameplate data sheets for QA and SupShip.
  • Writes Inspection Discrepancy Reports (IDR).
  • Maintains manual records for periodic audit.
  • Drives to various Naval bases to return and/or pick up material and coordinates material movement
  • Writes letters of transmittal (LOT) to return unused or used material back to Navy.
  • Notifies production personnel to pick up material and maintains a signed receipt document for the issuance of material.
  • Able to provide temporary backup support to other warehouse functions.
  • Actively participate in Repair and Warehousing process improvements.
  • Other responsibilities and duties assigned.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduate or equivalent. Experience in the Naval Supply System is necessary.
  • Require thorough knowledge of material management principles. Requires a minimum of one year of materials/warehousing experience. Requires NASSCO forklift certification.
  • Ability to input data into a computer, mainframe and PC and manual record forms.
  • Requires a Class C California driver’s license.
  • Must be a team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Must have knowledge of NAVY systems and Repair knowledge

 

POSITION DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work around moving machinery, must be able to handle stressful situations, and must be able to lift weights up to 50 pounds, physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be physically able to commute to various areas in the shipyard by walking and by bicycle.  Must be able to work year round in an unheated, uncooled warehouse environment.  The employee is occasionally exposed to dust and paint fumes. The noise level is usually quite to moderate outside noise 25% of the time.  Able to work overtime as needed.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to Warehouse Supervisor. Acts as conduit for information regarding Repair contract materials between Ship Managers, Repair Purchasing, production personnel, Naval Supply personnel, SupShips and the Navy Property Administrator.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

Accountable for ensuring compliance with established departmental procedures and contract specifications as relates to receipts and issues of material.  Responsible for performing duties safely, with no recordable incidents.  Accountable for having repair material available for issue to support schedule.
