Leads, guides, coordinates, & supervise a quality team that may comprise of a Supervisor, Working Supervisor, Team Leaders, Journey level workers, Trainees, Helpers, and subcontracted labor to ensure a quality product and continual improvement. Reports to the Superintendent.  Authority and responsibilities will be assigned at the discretion of the Superintendent. The Quality Advocate will be expected to liaise with all internal supplier and customer departments when appropriate.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

 

  • Reviews movement of all blocks throughout the entire shipyard. Creates schedules of when blocks and areas of the ship will be inspected and by whom.
  • Evaluates production’s quality of the overall team’s performance. Personally conducts source inspections.
  • Inputs data into the Quality Attribute System. Conducts trend analysis for from Quality Attribute System outputs. Identifies problem areas and initiates corrective action.
  • Participates in weekly rework meetings and receives actions to reduce rework. Collects rework meeting minutes and updates weekly rework reduction action item list. Generates weekly rework summary report for Trade Superintendent. Generates monthly Quality Attribute System reports.
  • Develops weekly inspection feedback report. Develops quality training aids and track training performed.
  • Develops visual work instructions.
  • Trains the Quality team to become collateral duty source inspectors. Audit of completed work, trade inspections, and equipment protection.
  • In-process inspections of required supervisory schedules (MTT).
  • Participation in Lesson’s Learned program.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

  

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Four to six (4 – 6) years of experience in supervisory roles. College degree, professional certificate, or equivalent. Demonstrated knowledge and utilization of production processes, methods, and technology. Effective leadership, communication, and team-building skills. Proven ability in people environment.
  • Must be a self-motivated, proactive individual with strong interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills able to write reports and give presentations. Must be willing to complete trade training programs.
  • Possesses a general knowledge of NASSCO policies and procedures, safety and environmental policy and facilities.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Must be able to climb vertical ladders and scaffolding, and work at heights. Must be able to physically commute to various areas of the shipyard. Must possess math, analytical and problem solving skills to identify solutions.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

 

Directly accountable for Quality, Rework, and the Training required for continual production improvement. Responsible for the adherence of Department Supervisory schedules utilizing Manufacturing Tools Technology (MTT).
