Receiving Support Technician - Otay Mesa - 2nd Shift

SUMMARY

  • Primarily responsible for receiving and posting material for New Construction, Repair, MRO, Min-Max and On-Board Repair Parts within the warehousing system.
  • Position reports to the Warehousing Supervisor. Takes direction from Sr. Receiving Support Technician. Maintains internal contracts with Receiving Inspectors, Production Shops, Purchasing, Accounting, Engineering, Contracts, and ILS or any other department receiving material.  Maintains contact with Navy, SupShips, vendors and carriers as required to resolve material throughout problems.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

 

  • Based upon various receiving documents, identifies inbound material to NASSCO’s Purchase Orders, GFM Schedule A, Contract Specification, or Incremental Stock Number Sequence List.
  • Must understand and use MMS and MACPAC inventory transactions in performance of daily duties. Post receipts into MMS purchasing system for New Construction, Repair, and MRO purchase orders. Puts material on-hand in MACPAC for issues from receiving. Backs out postings for receiving rejections. Initiates over, short and damage (OS&D), Government Property Problem Report (GPPR), or Inspection Deficiency Reports for unidentified or over/under received materials. Provides source data for Material Status Reporting of Steel, Spec, Non-Spec, Repair, MRO, and Spares.
  • Identifies documents and resolves various receiving and issuing problems. Distributes documents and reports to both internal and external destinations.
  • Works with Accounting, Purchasing, Vendors, and Shipping as necessary to resolve receiving and/or issuing problems.  Primary telephone contact for handling end user problems, questions, and material receipt/issue status.
  • Participates in Warehouse performance improvement processes, and contributes to team efforts.  Able to provide temporary backup support for other Warehousing functions.

 

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • High School graduate plus some college, trade school, marine experience or equivalent is required. Knowledge of computer terminal, PC operation and general office skills required. Must be able to operate a calculator, computer printer and barcode printer. Must be able to input data into a computer terminal.
  • Must have minimum one year of experience as a Jr. Receiving Support Technician.  Must be able to delegate tasks to Jr. Receiving Support Technician.
  • Must be knowledgeable in MMS and MACPAC problem resolution.
  • Knowledge of ship construction, components, materials and technical data (federal stock numbers, material commodities, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Position demands good verbal and written communication skills (English Language). Must be detail oriented, accurate, and have good general math skills.  Must be a team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs. 

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be physically fit, able to work around moving machinery, and lift weights up to 50 pounds. Requires extended periods of standing and walking (6 hours per day). Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. 
  • Must be able to sit at a desk in front of a computer terminal for up to eight hours per day and be physically able to manually input data into a computer terminal for up to eight hours per day.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to spend up to 70% of the time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. At times, employee will be exposed to noise, dust, dirt and fumes. 
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations.

 

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Accountable for ensuring compliance with established departmental procedures and contract specifications as relates to all receipts and issues of material.  Accountable for achieving material throughout performance goals as established by materials management.  Responsible for performing duties safely, with no recordable incidents.
