Summary

Receives, stores, and distributes materials, tools, and equipment within the warehouse. Operates material handling equipment to stow or issue materials. Conducts inventory of materials. Fills pick tickets or requests for materials from workers or vendors. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

 

Qualification Standards

High school education/equivalent preferred. Knowledge of shipbuilding processes and procedures preferred. Must have at least 2 years previous experience or training necessary via: 1) Successful completion of NASSCO training program for advancement -or- 2) Complete NASSCO assessment within this level -or- 3) Has completed appropriate trade certificate programs to pass assessment

 

Previous experience required. Experience in stockroom/warehouse environment, to include receiving, stocking and issuing materials. CRT experience as well. Demonstrated knowledge of computerized inventory and material control systems. Ability to operate forklift, order picker, turret lift and accurate accounting skills. NASSCO Forklift certification required. May have to access and move around ship safely. Ability to work indoors, outdoors, or on a ship.

 

Must be able to work all shifts and at heights. Must show at least two years of continous, stable and verifiable employment. May consider NASSCO approved training program. Construction or manufacturing background preferred and have strong mechanical skills. Frequent carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, manual dexterity, reaching, seeing, hearing, occasional kneeling, reclining and finger dexterity. Maintain safety awareness and ability to follow directions.

 

Physical/Mental Involvement

Frequent to continuous lifting of equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.  Standing, balancing, walking, climbing ladders or equipment, reaching above shoulder or out in front, manual dexterity, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, crouching, seeing, hearing and occasionally lowering self into confined spaces, crawling through small openings and working in reclined positions, as needed.  Works in all areas of the shipyard and on board ships.  Hearing warning signals and reading and comprehending safety instructions.  Must be able to maintain general safety awareness and avoid hazards commonly present in employee’s work area.    

 

Able to perform well in a fast-paced and highly challenging environment have the ability to be llexible and comfortable in a continuously changing environment. Canidate at times must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed.
