Paid Internship Program

General Dynamics NASSCO offers exciting paid internship opportunities for college students pursuing careers in maritime industry operations, engineering, manufacturing, shipbuilding and more!

What You'll Do:

As an intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience and play a key role in real shipbuilding projects. You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Support shipbuilding programs in Production, Production Support, or Engineering.
  • Develop a strong understanding of shipbuilding processes and enhance your leadership skills.
  • Join Process Improvement Teams and recommend impactful solutions.
  • Help achieve safety, quality, cost, and schedule goals.
  • Review and enhance processes and documentation in your assigned area.


What We’re Looking For:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Available to commit at least eight (8) consecutive weeks
  • Organized and reliable in completing projects and assignments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Professional Development Program

In addition to internships, NASSCO also offers a Professional Development Program open to both internal and external applicants. This program provides a unique opportunity to experience the diverse facets of our business through departmental rotations in areas such as Ship’s Management, Repair, New Construction, Planning, Programs, and Engineering. These rotations give participants a broad understanding of NASSCO’s shipbuilding, design, and repair operations, while also helping them build a strong professional network across the company.

Participants, known as Production Associates, complete job assignments in each department and are placed into a permanent position within the organization upon graduating from the program.

Program Features

The Professional Development Program includes:

Each PDP has a program schedule tailored to his or her educational background, interests, and strengths to maximize their success within the company. We are looking for dynamic and talented individuals who are interested in taking their career and shipbuilding to the next level.

NASSCO Requirements:

  • Permanent resident status or U.S. citizenship is required. If selected, you will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination, which includes a drug and alcohol test. EOE M/F/D/V
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work in on-board shop and assembly production areas.
