Internship Program

General Dynamics NASSCO offers summer internships for college students pursuing careers in maritime industry operations, engineering, manufacturing and shipbuilding.

Internship Opportunities:

  • Support shipbuilding programs in the areas of Production, Production Support, or Engineering
  • Develop overall knowledge of shipbuilding processes and managerial skills
  • Participate in Process Improvement Teams and suggest recommendations for improvements
  • Contribute to team performance of safety, quality, cost and schedule objectives
  • Review processes and documentation in assigned area


Internship Requirements:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university program
  • Dedication of a minimum of eight (8) consecutive weeks to the program
  • Completion of all projects and assignments in a timely and organized fashion
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Professional Development Program

In addition to internships, the company also maintains a Professional Development Program open to both internal and external applicants. The program involves a one to two year rotation throughout various organizations within the company including but not limited to engineering, production and management. The program provides employees with a holistic view of the different disciplines of the company’s shipbuilding, design and repair operations, while establishing strong relations throughout the company and preparing participants for their future career path.

Program Features

The Professional Development Program includes:

  • Rotations through key shipyard areas including Production, Supply Chain, Engineering, Programs, Planning, and Repair;
  • Career guidance and mentoring;
  • Leadership skills training; and
  • Global interfacing and networking opportunities.

Each PDP has a program schedule tailored to his or her educational background, interests, and strengths to maximize their success within the company. We are looking for dynamic and talented individuals who are interested in taking their career and shipbuilding to the next level.

NASSCO Requirements:

  • Permanent resident status or U.S. citizenship is required. If selected, you will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination, which includes a drug and alcohol test. EOE M/F/D/V
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work in on-board shop and assembly production areas.
