ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)

 

The Professional Development Program is a department rotational program. The program consists of a one-year rotational process through Production, Engineering, Planning, Supply Chain, Safety, Programs, and other Departments. Production Associate will be required to complete job assignments in each department, as well as complete other projects specific to the program. After successful completion of the program, the Production Associate will be considered for a permanent position within the organization upon completion of the one-year rotation. 

 

POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)

 

  • Requires Bachelor’s Degree, preference in Engineering, Business or Maritime related subject matter. A broad understanding of maritime industry operations is desired but not required. 
  • Basic understanding of world-class manufacturing techniques.
  • This position requires the ability to plan work and manage time effectively, to utilize effective interpersonal skills, to resolve conflicts and to lead and motivate others.
  • Proficient in the following computer applications: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Must have the ability to express ideas in oral and written formats and demonstrate ability to handle rapidly changing priorities and think about problems and tasks in novel, creative ways.

 

 

POSITION DEMANDS (Required Experience)

  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of shipbuilding and/or repair processes.
  • Develop managerial and leadership skills.
  • Complete all projects/assignments in time allotted.
  • Support company goals related to Safety, Quality, Cost and Schedule Performance.
  • Be an active participant in NASSCO's continuous improvement culture.
  • Complete internal and external training requirements.
  • Complete performance evaluations at the culmination of each assignment
  • Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs. 
  • Provide contributing improvement ideas in Production, Planning, Supply Chain, Safety and Program Management.
  •  Responsible for completing rotation assigned tasks in a timely and organized fashion.
  • Must maintain a good attendance record and must be proactive and outgoing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Must be able to climb ladders and perform work board ship and assembly production areas.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

 

The Production Associate is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, controls, and to talk and hear.  Must be physically able to walk to all yard locations. The noise level in this environment is usually moderate.

Vision Requirements: The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform activity such as: operating machines where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach or by performing mechanical or skilled trade tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by electricians, technicians, service people, painters, mechanics, etc.

UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job. Must be willing to travel and have reliable transportation.  Must be a U.S. citizen and qualify for a Common Access Card (CAC) or DBIDS badge.  Must have reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime as required.  Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility.  Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear.  Must have good eye/hand coordination.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be familiar with working in a naval-ship-work-environment and be able to go aboard marine vessels and the drydock, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment.  These areas can be dirty, dusty, hot or cold, and noisy.

 

 

Pay Range:    $61,048 - $82,555  Annually

 

The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity.  At NASSCO Bremerton we anticipate making salary offers between the minimum and midpoint of salary range. Offers will be based on experience, abilities, and knowledge similar to the NASSCO Job being applied for NASSCO employees performing similar work.
