SUMMARY

 

Directs, manages, and controls trade processes and procedures in support of NASSCO’s goals.

Reports to the Director of Programs as defined by NASSCO’s organizational chart.  Supports Project Management Team (PMT) by maintaining close liaison with on-site customer representatives. Liaison with external groups such as suppliers, manufacturers, and customers.  Develops and maintains communication at all levels internal to NASSCO to improve overall business processes with emphasis on planning, engineering, materials, and trade management.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

 

  • Plans and provides manpower resources and technical guidance to support PMT activities through hiring, training, and subcontracting.
  • Ensures development and best usage of facilities, tooling and personnel resources.
  • Defines, measures and controls production quality within trade(s).
  • Monitors trade processes for continuous improvement and ensures support by supervision.
  • Analyzes and develops safety policies and procedures to ensure goals of NASSCO and trade(s) are achieved.
  • Controls, coordinates, and manages trades via Foreman, Supervisor(s) and Production Supervisor(s).
  • Contributes to the end results of the Company through organizing, planning, and managing the Production Department’s staffing requirements.
  • Work closely with the Foremen to determine the temporary staffing levels needed for each trade.
  • Coordinate with the various temporary labor companies to meet the required staffing levels.
  • Coordinate training efforts as required by the various trades.
  • Manages trade’s schedule and cost performance jointly with PMT.
  • Manages trade subcontractors.
  • Participates in the development of engineering specifications and ensures compliance.
  • Advises on estimate and costing data.
  • Controls department’s direct and indirect overhead accounts.
  • Ensures hourly evaluation system is consistent throughout the organization.
  • Oversight of NASSCOs tool room and procedures, when assigned.
  • Oversight of NASSCOs crane program.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with NASSCO’s Mission, Vision, Values and Principles.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Ten years proven shipbuilding experience in supervisory roles.
  • College degree, professional certificate, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of contracting and estimating procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and utilization of production processes, methods, quality, and technology.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and team-building skills, both inside and outside area of assigned responsibility.
  • Proven ability in people environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, research and synthesize data, and propose unique solutions or alternatives.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Must be able to climb vertical ladders and scaffolding, and work at heights. Must be physically able to commute to various areas of shipyard.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to dust, welding/burning fumes, and smoke.  The noise level is usually moderate to extremely noisy, which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

 

Accountable for efficient and effective performance of trade personnel while adhering to budgetary, manpower, schedule, quality and safety requirements.

 

Pay Range:    $101, 106.93 - $130,844.26 Annually

The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity.
