ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)
The Sheetmetal Mechanic 3rd Class is responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications
safely, with the highest quality, in a professional manner.
POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training/Experience)
Must have a minimum High School diploma or equivalent and one year directly related experience as a Sheetmetal Mechanic, preferably in the maritime industry.

- Basic understanding of reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and layout to related shipboard construction HVAC and habitability
- Must have the ability to navigate a ship and understand compartment designation.
- Must be able to assist in repairs sheetmetal products, fabrication, installation, and repairs related to Shipboard construction HVAC and Habitability
- Be able to carry a full tool bag and remove, dissemble, repair, reassemble and reinstall ships equipment.
- Must be able to assist with Volumetric testing and CFM calculations
- Must have general knowledge of the Work Authorization Form (WAF) and Tag-Out process
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize future and active work
- Must be able to work at heights of 20 ft. or higher.
- Must be able to stand, sit, walk, kneel and crawl for long periods of time.
- Must be able to adhere and understand the company’s safety policies as well as industrial safety requirements.

Vision Requirements: The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as:
operating machines where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach or performing mechanical or
skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by electricians, technicians, service
people, painters, mechanics, etc.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
This position develops and maintains a positive working relationship with other trades and supports a team approach in the pursuit of common company goals.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must be able to work in a team of Sheetmetal Mechanics
- Perform inspections and tests in accordance with to NAVSEA and Local Standard Items.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage of rigging equipment and materials.
- Follow safety procedures and protocols to minimize risks related to rigging evolutions, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to navigate around and onboard Naval vessels.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Works under the supervision of a Sheetmetal Lead, Sheetmetal Foreman, and Sheetmetal General Foreman
STANDARD EQUIPMENT ISSUE
None.
UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Evening, weekend and/or extended hours may be required.
- Approx. 70% of a mechanics time is devoted to actual production.
Must be able to access all work locations, including government and private shipyards and/or vessels.
Pay Range: $ $21.42 - $28.11
The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity. At NASSCO Bremerton we anticipate making salary offers between the minimum and midpoint of salary range. Offers will be based on experience, abilities, and knowledge similar to the NASSCO Job being applied for NASSCO employees performing similar work.
