  1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)

 

Marine Painters are responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safely, with the highest quality, in a professional manner.  Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job.

 

  1. POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)

                   

Typically has a High School diploma or equivalent plus five (5) years directly related experience.  

 
Two or more of the following SSPC Certifications: C7, C12, C13 or C14, PCMS Certified (Not required but recommended) 

 

POSITION DEMANDS (Required Experience)

 

  1. Must have at least 5 years’ experience working on ships
  2. Must have full knowledge of WAF’s
  3. Must be able to complete work with little guidance from Supervisor.
  4. Must have basic knowledge of Standard Items
  5. Must have basic knowledge of shop equipment
  6. Works well with others

  1. VISUAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach or performing mechanical or skilled trades’ tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by electricians, technicians, service people, painters, mechanics, etc.

 

  1. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

 

Reports to the Paint Shop Foreman / General Foreman. 

 

  1. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Must have knowledge of mixing and application of epoxy and enamel paints
  2. Must be able to perform the job with little to no supervision
  3. Must be able to read job specs and complete the job accordingly
  4. Should have a good understanding of the requirements under NAVSEA Standard Item 009-32
  5. Must know how to use power tools associated with surface preparation and paint removal
  6. Must have knowledge of brushing and rolling painting
  7. Must have knowledge of surface preparation SSPC-SP-1, SP-2, SP-3, SP-5, SP-6, SP-10, SP-11 and SP-12
  8. Must have knowledge of paints used in marine painting, including safety data sheets, NAVSEA 718 product data sheets and the proper use of wet film gauges
  9. Must possess knowledge of the differences between critical coated systems and non-critical coated systems.
  10. Must have knowledge concerning paint induction times and also have some knowledge of spray painting or pumpkin (gas free) procedures
  11. Good Housekeeping skills
  12. Work well with others

                      Accountable to the Paint Shop Foreman / General Foreman

None

 

  1. UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Must be able to access all Navy installations and other shipyards.  Must have reliable transportation.  Must be able to work aboard vessels, climb ladders, and work in tanks and confined spaces.  Must be able to wear personal protective equipment.  Must be able to work evening and weekend hours.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of weight. 

 

May require travel up to 30%. to include international.
