The Pipefitters are responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safely, with the highest quality and in a professional manner.  Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the positon.

 

  1. POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)          

 

AA/AS plus two (2) years directly related experience, or five (5) years’ directly related experience.

 

POSITION DEMANDS (REQUIRED EXPERIENCE)

 

  • Basic knowledge of machine and hand threading pipes.
  • Be familiar with pipe scribe lines and benchmarks.
  • Be familiar with various types of valves (globe, ball and gate).
  • Be familiar with various pipe joint designs (P-14 & P-17).
  • Must have three years of ship repair experience.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the cleanliness levels (I, II & III).
  • Basic brazing knowledge (GR III & IV) and LP-001-7000.
  • Basic knowledge of hand bending simple offsets.
  • Advanced blueprint reading (scaling drawings and identifying flaws).
  • Must know basic ship repair standard items (009-24, 009-71, 009-23).
  • LOKRING MAF fittings.
  • Must be able to fabricate custom hangers.
  • Be able to understand a WAF and what each block means.
  • Be knowledgeable in hydrostatic testing and tank testing.
  • Must be familiar with marine chemist tickets and competent person tickets.

  1. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

 

This position reports to shop supervisor.  This position develops and maintains a positive working relationship with other Pipefitters and supports a team approach in the pursuit of common company goals.

 

 

 

                     

 

  1. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Assures that tank/compartment has an updated safe for hot work ticket and that requirements of the ticket have been met. (Example: ventilation, lighting, safety equipment etc.).
  • Assures that conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written. (Example: fuel run back, unsafe working conditions, etc.).
  • Assures that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished, no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs.
  • Assures that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (Example: special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc).
  • Assures that you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to do (Example: JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs and etc.).
  • Assures that General Dynamics-NASSCO’s Safety Procedures, including testing, are utilized for all torch work.
  • Assures that you and personnel working under your direction are working as safely and as productively as possible maintaining quality control at all times.
  1. ACCOUNTABILITY

 

Accountable to the Shop Supervisor and for effective, efficient and safe accomplishment of all assigned tasks..

  1. UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Must be willing to travel and have reliable transportation. 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must have reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime as required. 
  • Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility. 
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear. 
  • Must have good eye/hand coordination. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Must be familiar with working in a naval-ship-work-environment and be able to go aboard marine vessels
  • These areas can be dirty, dusty, hot or cold, and noisy.
  • Must have or soon acquire a valid passport.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of weight.
  • May require travel up to 30% including international travel
