  1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)

The Team Lead oversees and coordinates a team's daily activities to ensure efficient production, meeting targets, adhering to quality standards, and maintaining a safe work environment. They also train, coach, and develop team members, and identify/implement process improvements.  Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job.

 

  1. POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)
  • Typically, 4 years directly related experience or 8 years directly related ship building/ship repair experience.

                 

POSITION DEMANDS (Required Experience)

  • Knowledge in all facets of the trade relating to ship repair.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and utilization of production processes, methods, quality, and technology.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to delegate tasks effectively and foster collaboration
  • Proven ability in people environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft products.

Vision Requirements: The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach or performing mechanical or skilled trade tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by electricians, technicians, service people, painters, mechanics, etc.

 

  1. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
  • Reports to the Foreman.
  • This position typically oversees 5 - 10 skilled, semi-skilled, unskilled employees and / or trade subcontractors.
  • Supports Production and Program Management    

 

  1. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for safety, quality, schedule and cost for his / her team.
  • Assists in developing daily work assignments and expectations for production workforce.
  • Follows up at the job site throughout the day to ensure proper progress and resolve potential issues.
  • Ensures all employees have all the necessary tooling, equipment, specifications, drawings and procedures to properly accomplish their jobs.
  • Deconflicts work and informs the Foreman of any potential problem that jeopardizes completion of quality work within budget and schedule.
  • Inspects work upon completion to ensure trade quality standards and attention to detail have been met.
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manages workforce performance and compliance to company rules.  Brings issues to Foreman
  • Monitors workforce performance and absenteeism.
  • Performs all job functions in accordance with NASSCO’s Mission, Vision, Values and Principles.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned

  • Accountable for the efficient and effective performance of trade personnel while adhering to budgetary, quality, manpower, schedule, and safety requirements.

  1. UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be willing to travel nationally and internationally.  Needs Passport.
  • Must be able to gain access to Naval Installations.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must have reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime as required.
  • Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility.
  • Must be able to climb vertical ladders, scaffolding and work at heights.
  • Must be physically able to commute to various areas of the shipyard.
  • Must be familiar with working in a naval-ship-work-environment and be able to go aboard marine vessels, drydocks, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment.
  • Areas can be dirty, dusty, hot or cold, and noisy.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear.
  • Strong communication skills required to communicate and present to upper management and government officials.
