We currently have an exciting opportunity in our SPEEDE DRYDOCK department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for a Drydock Mechanic J4.
The Drydock Machinist Mechanic J2-J4 is responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safety, with the highest quality, in a professional manner. Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job.
Required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines where the job is at or within arm’s reach or performing mechanical or skilled trades’ tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by mechanics, electricians, technicians, service people, painters, etc.
Must be able to climb on and around ships and walk to other yard areas and requires extended periods of standing and walking (75%). Inspections and work may require climbing ladders, working at heights, walking on scaffolding and observing co-workers using tools and equipment. Lifting/carrying tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs. on frequent basis. Standing, bending, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, eye/hand/foot coordination, seeing, hearing required. Selecting appropriate tools for jobs, as per trade classification. Works in tight, confined work spaces on board ship and is exposed to varied temperatures, wind, wet and humid conditions, fumes, odors and dust, vibrations from ship and hand tools.
Reports to Drydock Supervisor and/or DockMaster.
Accountable to Drydock Supervisor and/or DockMaster.

Must have reliable transportation. Must be able to work aboard vessels, climb ladders, and work in tanks and confined spaces. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including respirator. Must be able to work evening and weekend hours.
May require up to 10% travel.
