We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Purchasing department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for an Expeditor, the hours are Monday – Friday 7 am – 4pm.

  1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)

 

Provide project support to Purchasing Manager to attain 100% material availability.  Material liaison between Buyers, Subcontracts, Departments of NASSCO, Warehouses, and Suppliers, as required in order to resolve material problems encountered before and after receipt of material. Attend various meetings as required representing Supply Chain Management.  Promote communication between departments supporting Production.

  

  1. POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)

                   

Typically has a BA/BS in a related field, or AA/AS plus two (2) years’ directly related experience, or six (6) years’ directly related experience.

A.     Knowledge of:

1.   Purchasing practices.

2.   Electronic data processing / data mining.

3.   Material delivery procedures.

4.   Material problem reporting process.

6.   Material return procedures.

7.   Proficient in Microsoft Office products.

9.   NASSCO deliver-and-receipt process.

B.     Basic skill in:

1.   Identifying materials and capable of material availability research.

2.   Reading reports to determine anticipated delivery date and to verify material deliveries. 

3.   Coordinate material deliveries with the Buyer and Trades.

4.   Ability to use interpersonal skills to work effectively with people from many organizations.

5.   Problem solving and conflict resolution.

6.   Maintains a cooperative, positive attitude between external and internal customers.

7.   Ability to identify where procedural enhancements / process improvements may be required.

8.   Ability to think clearly under the pressure of time deadlines and commitments.

  1. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

 

Reports to the Purchasing Manager maintain continuous internal contacts with Purchasing, Operations, Engineering, Warehousing, and Trades. Interfaces with Buyers, Logistics, and Production. External contacts maintained with Suppliers.  Possesses some Team building skills.  This position has no direct reports.

  

  1. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1.  Act as coordinator between Buyers, Operations, Trades, Warehousing, and Suppliers in resolving delivery issues and material rejections with timely replacements.
  2. Resolve material discrepancy and delivery issues between NASSCO and Suppliers.
  3. Identify problems with late and missing material. Coordinate support from Storeroom, Transportation and Production to resolve discrepancies.
  4. Analyze material requirements versus inventory and purchase orders to ensure material will be available when needed.
  5. Systematically and routinely track with vendors the delivery status of Long Lead Time Materials.
  6. Update / maintain reports and charts as necessary.
  7. Conduct and attend meetings with Buyers, Operations, and Trades as necessary.
  8. Collect and verify materials-related data as needed. Update, run, sort and distribute department reports.
  9. Be aware of NASSCO’s “Standards and Business Conduct” and abide by the instructions and guidelines set forth in the standard.
  10. Additional duties as assigned by Manager.

  

  1. ACCOUNTABILITY

 

Accountable to the Purchasing Manager for insuring material is delivered Maintain / Develop weekly reports, including but not limited to charts and statistics for weekly whiteboards.  Obtain / verify material status from Supply Chain Professionals.  Responsible for assisting departmental managers in implementation of policies.

Must have reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime as required.  Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility.  Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear.  Must have good eye/hand coordination.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  A credit check will be required for this position.
