We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Facilities department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for a Facilities Maintenance Mechanic. 

Must be able Must be able to access all Navy installations and other shipyards by obtaining DBIDS and NAVSEA badges.

Vision Requirements: The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach or performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by electricians, technicians, service people, painters, mechanics, etc.
 
JOURNEYPERSON 4
 
•    Independently performs complex preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of machinery, equipment, and facility systems.
•    Determines repair requirements using diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, manufacturer specifications, equipment condition, and diagnostic findings.
•    Troubleshoots and resolves more complex mechanical and equipment problems within the scope of the position.
•    Demonstrates advanced proficiency in the use of applicable tools, measuring instruments, and shop equipment.
•    Performs and supports a broad range of building and facility maintenance and repair activities.
•    Ensures required maintenance documentation and records are accurately completed.
•    Applies established safety requirements and promotes safe maintenance practices.
•    Assists less experienced Maintenance Mechanics with technical work and proper maintenance practices as needed.
 
JOURNEYPERSON 3
 
•    Independently performs preventative maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of machinery, equipment, and facility systems.
•    Interprets diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, and manufacturer specifications to determine maintenance and repair requirements.
•    Diagnoses mechanical equipment problems and determines appropriate repair methods.
•    Uses applicable hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and shop equipment proficiently.
•    Performs general building and facility maintenance and repairs within assigned responsibilities.
•    Completes and maintains required operating and maintenance records.
•    Applies applicable safety requirements and established maintenance procedures.
•    Coordinates routine work with operations and other personnel as necessary.
•    Demonstrates increasing independence and proficiency and the ability to progress to J4.
 
JOURNEYPERSON 2
 
•    Performs routine preventative maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of machinery, equipment, and facility systems under supervision.
•    Uses maintenance diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, and manufacturer specifications to support assigned work.
•    Identified common equipment problems and performs routine repairs within demonstrated skill level.
•    Uses hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments safely and effectively.
•    Performs general building and facility maintenance and repairs.
•    Maintains required operating and maintenance documentation.
•    Applies established safety requirements and maintains an orderly work area.
•    Demonstrates increasing technical proficiency and the ability to progress to J3.
 
JOURNEYPERSON 1
 
•    Performs basic preventative maintenance and repairs tasks as directed under close supervision.
•    Assist with inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of machinery, equipment, and facility systems.
•    Locates and uses maintenance diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, and manufacturer information with guidance.
•    Uses basic hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments appropriate to the assigned work.
•    Performs basic facility maintenance and repair activities.
•    Completes required operating or maintenance logs as directed.
•    Follows established safety requirements, equipment guarding requirements, and shop housekeeping practices.
•    Demonstrates the ability to develop skills necessary for advancement to J2.
 
ALL
 
The Maintenance Mechanics perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and general facilities maintenance on buildings, machinery, and production support equipment. Work may include mechanical equipment, basic building systems, and general facility repairs using applicable diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, manufacturer specifications, and established safety procedures.
 
Progression through the Journeyperson levels reflects increasing proficiency, independence, troubleshooting capability, and responsibility.
