We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Information Systems department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for an IT Security Analyst responsible for securing network and data security requirements and satisfying the working requirements of the IT department.

Security Clearance: No Clearance

 

 

PURPOSE AND FUNCTIONS

Maintains and operates a variety of security measures and software that perform cybersecurity functions such as access control, monitoring or vulnerability assessment. Provides support to the users and ensures they have up-to-date protection from malicious software and other cyber threats. Tests and recommends security measures to remediate and mitigate risk. Provides reports and other information related to information security issues as requested by management and other groups. Performs evaluation and analysis of security applications and systems to make recommendations to management.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Both experience and education are considered.

  • BA/BS degree in Information Systems or equivalent degree. Typically 5-10 years experience with IT security and 2 years of network infrastructure support   

  • Professional certifications/associations are a plus; specifically CISA, CISSP, CRISC, CISM

  • Experience implementing security frameworks, such as CIS, NIST 800-53, and CMMC

  • Demonstrated experience with utilizing SIEM (such as Splunk, LogRhythm etc.) in investigating security issues

  • Demonstrated experience with complex operational issues on Windows, Linux, and various network devices

  • Solid understanding of enterprise detection technologies and processes (such as IDS/IPS, Network Packet Analysis, Endpoint Protection)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of security requirements for Windows and LINUX operating systems; Cisco switches and routers; virus, spam, and spyware prevention hardware and software.

  • Solid understanding of network protocols and operating systems (Windows, Linux, Databases, DNS)

  • Solid understanding of Cloud infrastructure (Identity Management, SaaS, etc.)

  • Ability to design and manage security architecture

  • Ability to interact and provide information to IT management and department heads

  • Recommends best practices to ensure system security across the enterprise

  • Ability to verbally communicate technical material effectively to individuals and small groups

 

PHYSICAL/ MENTAL INVOLVEMENT

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to fingers, handle or feel objects, or controls, and to talk/hear.  Must be physically able to walk to all yard locations.  Must be able to lift weights up to 50 pounds.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the IT Director.  Maintains professional relationship with vendors.  Works with Purchasing, Facilities, Software Engineers, Network Engineers, System Engineers and IT management on IT Security requirements and issues.  Works with departmental users and IT personnel to define network and data security requirements in support of their business needs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies, reports, and resolves security violations.

  • Identifies potential threats and proposes solutions to protect against them.

  • Manage events to determine security risks identified from systems including enterprise SIEM tool, threat Intelligence, end user notifications, etc.

  • Interacts and provides required documentation to auditors and customers.

  • Assists with the design and management of the network infrastructure.

  • Maintains policies, standards, guidelines and procedures to protect data from unauthorized access.

  • Maintains technical security systems including SIEM, network IDS, antivirus, web, email filters and firewalls.

  • Provides training and dissemination of information security awareness and threats to various audiences.

  • Contribute to new and amended security policies, procedures and technology enhancements to stay up to date with new age changes

  • Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult security problems. 

  • Develop solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practical and consistent with NASSCO objectives.

  • Perform Risk Assessments (including systems, IT acquisitions, third party reviews)

  • Willing to work nights/ weekends in the event of a security incident 

  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be willing to travel and have reliable transportation. 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and qualify for a Common Access Card (CAC) or DBIDS badge.
  • Must have reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime as required. 
  • Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility.    
  • Must have good eye/hand coordination. 
  • Ability to use work provided cell phones and desktop computers.
