We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Electrical department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for a Marine Electrician J1 - J4 for all shifts.

We are currenlty recruiting for 1 Marine Electrician J4 for ALL SHIFTS

 

  1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)

 

The Marine Electrician J1 is responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safely, with the highest quality and in a professional manner.  Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job

      

  1. POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training/Experience)

 

  1. Must be able to use basic tools and test equipment.
  2. Must have basic knowledge of ship’s compartmental layout.
  3. Enroll and pass all pre-approved classes on electrical theory, blue print reading and electrical fundamentals.
  4. Must be able to follow directions from a supervisor.
  5. Be able to install temporary services using correct wire and breaker sizes; complete work under direction of supervisor.

Visual Requirements: Must be able to pass a Standard Jaeger’s Test chart for near vision acuity reading J1 letters or equivalent with or without corrective aids and pass a color vision test using Ishihara’s Tests for Color Deficiency.

 

Must be able to climb on and around ships and walk to other yard areas and requires extended periods of standing and walking (75%). Inspections and work may require climbing ladders, working at heights, walking on scaffolding and observing co-workers using tools and equipment. Lifting/carrying tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs. on frequent basis.  Standing, bending, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, eye/hand/foot coordination, seeing, hearing required. Selecting appropriate tools for jobs, as per trade classification. Works in tight, confined work spaces on board ship and is exposed to varied temperatures, wind, wet and humid conditions, fumes, odors and dust, vibrations from ship and hand tools

 

  1. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

 

This position reports to Foreman/General Foreman.  This position develops and maintains a positive working relationship with other Electricians and supports a team approach in the pursuit of common company goals.

   PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Assures that tank/compartment has an updated safe for hot work ticket and that requirements of the ticket have been met. (Example: ventilation, lighting, safety equipment etc.).
  2. Assures that conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written. (Example: fuel run back, unsafe working conditions, etc.).
  3. Assures that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished, no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs.
  4. Assures that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (Example: special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc).
  5. Assures that you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to do (Example: JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs and etc.).
  6. Assures that you and personnel working under your direction are working as safely and as productively as possible maintaining quality control at all times.
  7. Assures that a 30 minute cool down period has been accomplished in hot work areas.
  8. Assures that the job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.
  9. Complete electrical repairs or installation(s) as assigned with supervision.

Responsible for effective, efficient and safe accomplishment of all assigned tasks.

  1. UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
