We have an exciting opportunity in our Quality Assurance department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are currently looking for a QA Engineer. This position is accountable to act as an audit team member and conducts audits under supervision of processes, procedures, and products.  Inaccurate decisions, errors in work and information may put the fiscal position of the organization at risk and damage Company’s reputation.

Security Clearance: No Clearance



Provide staff support of the Manager for the investigation, documentation and resolution of quality issues and initiatives.  Support auditing of processes and products.  Evaluate subcontractors’ quality systems. Must be able to interpret standards, policies, procedures and agreed upon QMS Metrics to ensure the institutionalization of the QMS within the company and to ensure that QMS is continuously improving.



  • Typically has a college degree or equivalent in Quality or a related Engineering field, plus minimum five (5) years’ experience in the field; or Senior Operations and Maintenance experience (15-20 years).
  • Ability to understand ship specifications, drawings, MIL-STD, CFRs, ABS Rules, etc. 
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and problem solving tools. 
  • Good oral and written communication skills. 
  • Have basic computer word processing skills.
  • Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs.



  • Assists with subcontractor evaluations.
  • Assists with audits and proposing and preparing updates to Quality Assurance Department Procedures.
  • Analyzes processes as necessary and recommending improvements as appropriate for out of control
  • process conditions, sporadic defects and non-conforming products. 
  • Assists in the design of Production, Engineering, and Materials, processes, including data collection
  • and appropriate statistical methodology          
  • Maintains an understanding of contractual quality requirements.
  • Provides input, as appropriate, to business and production plans.
  • Assist in Monitoring corrective action plans and milestone dates and ensures correction of internal control deficiencies.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.



 Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to pass a Standard Jaeger’s Test chart for near vision acuity reading J1 letters or equivalent with or without corrective aids and pass a color vision test using Ishihara’s Tests for Color-Deficiency. The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to fingers, handle or feel objects, or controls, and to talk/hear.  Must be physically able to walk to all yard locations, including vessels.  Must be able to lift weights up to 50 pounds.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.



Reports directly to the Manager, Quality Assurance Department. Position requires the incumbent to be resourceful, assertive, self-reliant and consistent, in dealing with internal and external customers on a wide range of issues.  Considerable latitude in scheduling own activities.




  • Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of this job
  • Work may require assignment to offsite locations
  • Work will mostly be performed in an air conditioned office, but the incumbent must be able to commute about the yard and on the ships undergoing repair
  • Must be willing to travel and have reliable transportation
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and qualify for a Common Access Card (CAC) or DBIDS badge

  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear
  • Must have good eye/hand coordination
  • Ability to use work provided cell phones and desktop computers. 
  • Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels.
  • Must be familiar with working in a naval-ship-work-environment and be able to go aboard marine vessels and the drydock, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment. 
  • Comfortability in areas that can be dirty, dusty, hot or cold
