We have an exciting opportunity in our Information Technology department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are currently looking for a Senior Network Engineer. This position is responsible for designing and implementing secure network structures and satsifying the working requirements of the IT department. Considered to be a networking expert by peers.

Security Clearance: No Clearance




Ability to identify, prioritize, resolve and properly document network-related support calls and questions. Evaluate requests for new services, propose solutions and perform testing and upkeep of these services. Ensure accuracy of service and network documentation, maintain network integrity, monitor network alarms, troubleshoot network issues, and assist in root cause analysis events. This position requires understanding and following of standard procedures, and escalating situations falling outside of these procedures. It is highly important to possess critical thinking skills, well-developed analytical decision making, and problem-solving abilities, errors in work or actions can affect company-wide networks.



  • BA/ BS in related field, or 8-13 years of directly related experience.

  • Thorough understanding of LAN/WAN, DNS, routing, switches, security appliances.

  • Additional certifications are a plus - specifically Cisco and Juniper.

  • Knowledge of Cisco Switching within 5 years is a plus.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suites, at least 5 years supporting MS Windows enviornment.

  • Knowledge of telecommunications network design principles and processes

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • To be accurate, flexible, easily trained, with consistent attention to detail.

  • Demonstrate self-motivated willingness to learn, and the ability to work with little or no supervision.

  • Ability to multi-task under pressure, of a busy and changing work environment with critical deadlines.



  • Comfortability in areas that can be dirty, dusty, hot or cold
  • Able to lift 50lbs and be comfortable working in an outdoor environment in all types of weather in a variety of conditions
  • Must be willing and able to work shipboard and in tight spaces
  • Must be willing and able to pull and install various types of network infrastructure cables
  • Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility

  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear. 

  • Must have good eye/hand coordination.

VISION REQUIREMENTS:  Required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating equipment where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach or performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by technicians, service people, etc.



Reports to Network manager. Collaborates with members of the IT Infrastructure team. Mentor and help to provide direction for Network Engineers. Supports customers and users. 



  • Designs, implements and maintains LAN and WAN wired and wireless connectivity for Norfolk, and additonal locations. 

  • Configures firewalls, routes, switches, VPN, security software and appliances to support company requirements. 

  • Assists in the design and implentation of new systems

  • Troubleshoot LAN and WAN connectivity issues and assist with upgrades or modifications required

  • Lead, coordinate and participate in IT projects

  • Assist in completion of daily checklists for network health and security, raise concerns when necessary

  • Maintain cabling plant diagrams and documentation 



  • Must be willing to travel and have reliable transportation. 

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and qualify for a Common Access Card (CAC) or DBIDS badge.

  • Must have reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime as required. 

  • Ability to use work provided cell phones and desktop computers. 

  • Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels.

  • Must be familiar with working in a naval-ship-work-environment and be able to go aboard marine vessels and the drydock, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment.
