We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Finance department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for a Supervisor of Financial Following.

- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE
This position includes the following functions:
- Supervise and lead direct reports to accomplish Finance department and Company objectives.
- Oversee all aspects of the General Ledger and monthly close to ensure completion of timely and accurate financial statements.
- Ensures compliance controls and requirements are implemented and maintained (GAAP, SOD, SOX, CAS, FAR).
- Prepares and reviews appropriate ledger entries and reconciliations.
- Supervises the Accounts Payable cycle including proper charging and the timely payment of vendors.
- Oversees the weekly payroll function to ensure all employees are paid timely and accurately and all payroll reconciliations are completed.
- Prepares and analyzes financial reports for internal customers, senior management and parent company.
- POSITION DEMANDS
Position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting and 7 years direct accounting experience. Leadership ability, high integrity, and enhanced interpersonal relations skills are required. Superior analytical and troubleshooting ability required. Prior supervisory experience, a plus. Prior experience with Deltek CostPoint, a plus. Advanced hands-on experience with Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word and PowerPoint required. Ability to work under pressure and within deadlines required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. - WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Director of Financial Reporting & Controller. Direct reports include accountants, accounts payable analysts, and labor/timekeeping analysts. Maintains internal contacts with other Finance department personnel, IT, Purchasing, Facilities and other employees as required. External contacts include General Dynamics accounting and finance personnel, various external auditors, customers and vendors and various financial institutions used by GD.
- PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures timely and accurate preparation of both internal and external financial statements and reports.
- Prepares and submits monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reports to the parent company including over 30 schedules to support SEC rules, operational summary by ship, sales and EBIT variances, claims, cash flow, Report 4 items, and one-time/unusual events.
- Supports the development of the capital plan and assists internal customers with capital project authorization packages and determination of capital treatment in accordance with GAAP.
- Supports the preparation and analysis of the monthly actual expense versus plan management reports.
- Supports interim and year-end audits with internal and external auditors.
- Monitors, assesses and maintains strong internal control environment to ensure accuracy and accountability for financial reporting and
company assets, including compliance with SOX requirements.
- Oversee labor processing to include time collection, posting of labor distribution, payment to temporary staffing providers, and transfer of gross labor to GD Shared Resources for payroll processing and pay check generation.
- Ensures timely payment of vendor invoices and expense vouchers.
- Oversee travel and per diem.
- Maintains ERP Accounting and Project Modules to include chart of accounts, financial statement setup, department structure, indirect pools, service centers and other, as accountable.
- Demonstrates and employs intricate knowledge of Cost Accounting methodologies including (1) job order costing in a government contracting environment, (2) maintenance of service centers for piers, tower cranes, and Speede, (3) and cost allocation methodologies including the structure and workings of pools and bases for fringe, overhead, and G&A
- Manage the development of the annual departmental indirect budgets. Manage the monthly department monthly meetings to review actual results and prepare revised annual estimates as required.
- Remains current on new accounting standards.
- Designs and prepares special reports as requested by management.
- Identifies and implements potential process improvements in areas of direct supervision.
- Supervise, coach, and develop direct reports.
- Performs additional responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Ability to effectively communicate and work with all levels of NASSCO management and employees as well as external customers is at the very core of this job. The position requires ability to coordinate a variety of projects at the same time; ensuring deadlines and goals are met.
