We have an exciting opportunity in our Human Resources department. This position is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are currently looking for a Supervisor of HR Shared Services. This position will oversee the administration of benefits, employee leave of absence, FMLA, ADA, as well as communications and organizational development.

PURPOSE AND FUNCTIONS

The Supervisor of HR Shared Services is responsible for working in partnership with NASSCO’s Center of Excellence to facilitate the delivery of various HR services and supervise assigned staff.  This position collaborates with all NASSCO locations to develop, recommend and implement new and revised programs, policies and procedures to align with Company goals for HR communications, organizational training and development, employee engagement and benefits; conducts reporting of HR information and external benchmarks; and facilitates activities to ensure HR compliance with internal policies, guidelines, and government regulations

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Both education and experience are taken into consideration.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, human resources, or related field and six years of progressively responsible experience.
  • Five years of experience in human resources to include at least one year relevant experience in benefits administration, training, and organizational development.
  • At least three years of experience supervising subordinates.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations as they apply to benefits and compensation program, company policies, and operations.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of all federal, state and local regulations and compliance requirements related to employee benefits and compensation.
  • Strong analytical skills; the ability to interpret and communicate data.
  • Experience with preparing formal written documentation.
  • Computer proficiency and advanced technical aptitude with Microsoft office suite, including

      Excel

  • Advance time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates closely with NASSCO’s Center of Excellence in the development, implementation and administration of employee benefits, engagement, communications and organizational development programs and activities. 
  • Supervises assigned staff, promotes learning and development, communicates information and provides input to drive projects forward; influences and mentors HR team members; adapts to competing demands and new responsibilities.
  • Evaluate and assess professional development needs within the organization and actively direct the development and training programs to meet those needs.
  • Applies expertise in assigned areas of responsibility to coordinate and execute projects and activities; solves complex problems; proactively recognizes and acts on improvement opportunities.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of existing HR practices and programs, and recommends changes that are cost-effective and consistent with trends and Company objectives.
  • Maintains focus on supporting a high-performing culture and competitive employer position.
  • Compiles, writes, revises, edits and delivers a wide range of HR communications materials.
  • Creates letters, electronic communications, flyers, presentations, templates, guides, training materials and other communication tools in support of NASSCO, activities, goals and initiatives. 
  • Conducts analysis of benefits information in support of Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations, and serves as the primary point of contact for the coordination and execution of new hire and Annual Benefits Enrollment activities.
  • Participate in audits and testing of benefits plans to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. 
  • Advises management and drives the development and implementation of succession planning and organizational development efforts and initiatives.  
  • Leads the creation, review and revision of annual succession plans and individual development plans for identified or prospective leadership successors. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Regularly required to sit, use hands to fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and maintain the ability to commute to other buildings in and outside the shipyards for meetings, presentations and training. Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­the Senior Manager of Workforce Relations and is supported by the shared resources of the NASSCO Center of Excellence. This role must demonstrate high integrity, solid work ethic and a commitment to General Dynamics NASSCO.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of this job.
  • Must be willing to travel and have reliable transportation. 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and qualify for a Common Access Card (CAC) or DBIDS badge.
  • Must have reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime as required. 
  • Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility. 
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear. 
  • Must have good eye/hand coordination. 
  • Ability to use work provided cell phones and desktop computers. 
  • Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels.
