We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Human Resources department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)

 

The Talent Acquisition Specialist is a Human Resources professional with experience in full-cycle recruiting (sourcing, attracting, selecting, screening, hiring, and onboarding). The Talent Acquisition Specialist will insure that the temporary resource labor needs of NASSCO are met utilizing authorized agencies with qualified personnel, while maintaining the corporate philosophy on the use of temporary resource labor. Ultimately, you will create a strong talent pipeline for our company’s current and future hiring needs.                      

  

POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)

                   

Typically has a BA/BS in a related field of study plus two (2) years directly related experience, or AA/AS plus four (4) years directly related experience, or six (6) years directly related experience.  Recruiting experience strongly preferred.

 

POSITION DEMANDS (Required Experience)

 

  • Ability to communicate information clearly and effectively, listen, maintain confidentiality, speak professionally,                         prepare professional correspondence, and learn processes and procedures quickly.
  • Well rounded knowledge of the ship repair industry and the various positions and trades within ship repair is preferred.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.
  • Must display high integrity, ethical standards, and high emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Self-starter, ability to resolve issues and research solutions.
  • Ability to learn, understand, and respond to internal customer needs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Vast knowledge of employment and labor laws
  • Excellent interviewing and general communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain the highly confidential nature of human resources work.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task.
  • Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Work is generally performed in an office environment, however, this position requires the ability to physically board ships on an occasional basis and transit all areas of NASSCO shipyards and other worksites, including piers, shops and industrial areas on a daily basis.  This position requires the ability to wear PPE, including, but not limited to hard hat, steel toed boots and safety glasses. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and maintain the ability to commute to other buildings in and outside the shipyard for meetings, presentations and training.  Occasional exposure to weather, rain, snow, extreme heat and cold temperatures, uneven, slippery surfaces, heights, confined spaces, industrial equipment, dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

 

Reports to the Human Resources Manager. Exercises discretion when prioritizing recruitment activities.  Interacts with all levels of employees and management and external candidates.  This position has no direct reports.
 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Maintain recruitment strategy for attracting and selecting candidates. Coordinate recruitment, sourcing and on-boarding              activities.
  • Attend/participate and represent the company at recruitment fairs and other job events.
  • Develop strategic relationships with local job networks.
  • Manage new hire process. Responsible for extending job offers, scheduling and conducting interviews, making travel                 arrangements, and overseeing employees throughout the new hire process.
  • Facilitate and/or co-conduct new employee orientation.
  • Maintain a pipeline of qualified/interested potential candidates for future consideration.
  • Create/maintain internal/external job postings; update company website & coordinate advertisements.
  • Maintain recruitment strategy for attracting and selecting candidates and temporary employees.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities.
  • The liaison between hiring managers and temporary labor providers.
  • Oversee internal transfer process.  Responsible for extending job offers, and communicating change in status to employees.
  • Create reports using PeopleSoft and recruiting data by querying and analyzing data, advanced level of recruiting system                 administration and system augmentation required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce time, and reduce costs.

                Participate in audit of temporary labor providers.

  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

 

Accountable for accurate and timely processing of recruitment and demands within corporate guidelines and applicable laws and regulations.  Responsible for effectively supporting Hiring Managers with the selection and hiring of highly qualified personnel. Responsible for insuring that the temporary labor resource needs of all NASSCO are met utilizing authorized providers, ensuring qualified placements, while maintaining the corporate philosophy on the use of temporary labor resources.
