We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Welding department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for a Tech Librarian. The work schedule is 7am – 4pm with a 1 hour lunch.
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)
This position is responsible for the acquisition, cataloging, classifying, accessing and processing of library materials, including electronic databases. databases in accordance with all approved document controls and procedures
- POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)
Typically has a BA/BS in a related field, or AA/AS plus two (2) years’ directly related experience, or six (6) years’ directly related experience.
POSITION DEMANDS (Required Experience)
In depth knowledge of:
- Must have knowledge of navy ship repair industry.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products.
- Must qualify for Common Access Card (CAC).
- Must be organized, have a customer-service orientation, and have an excellent attendance record.
- Ability to read and catalog engineering documentation such as drawings and technical manuals
- Ability to read and catalog Navy documentation such as NSTM, MIL-Specs/Standards, SIDs, SDI’s, CDRls, etc
- Knowledge of Library storage, archiving and cataloging methods
- Knowledge of Enterprise storage software; Content Server, Share Point or other like software

- WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Planning, Engineering & Scheduling Director Interacts frequently with departmental personnel on technical documentation requirements and with external entities; MARMC Library, On-Site Representatives from Planning Yards and other Prime Contractors
. This position has no direct reports.
- PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide excellent standards of service to library users.
- Obtain drawings from the customer and post to the website.
- Review paragraph 2.0 of all Navy specification items to insure the reference is titled correctly and contains the most recent revision. Notify Planning department of later revisions to technical documents that differ from those listed in issued specifications
- Flag and maintain list of technical documents that are un-obtainable and report to supervisor
- Make copies of drawings as requested.
- Control subcontractor access to drawings through password protection.
- Oversee subscription services for electronic access to commercial specifications, federal supply system information, etc.
- Oversee maintenance and supplies for engineering drawing printer and plotter.
- Perform duties of engineering department ISO 9001-2008 trained auditor.
- Perform and maintain document change management of technical document revisions within the enterprise repository, as assigned.
- Provides Printing service for proposals and briefs to the government
- ACCOUNTABILITY
Accountable to the Planning, Engineering & Scheduling Director for the daily upkeep of the library database and employee/subcontractor access to that database.
- UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be a U.S. citizen and qualify for a Common Access Card (CAC). Must have reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime as required. Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility. Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear. Must have good eye/hand coordination. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
