SUMMARY

 

This is a trainee position with the primary objective of developing accounting and finance professionals within the NASSCO environment. A rotational job assignment program will be implemented for the participants with the goal of providing an overall understanding of the accounting and finance functions and responsibilities and its interaction with the shipbuilding process. The employee will be expected to assume a position assignment within the accounting or finance organization upon successful program completion. The rotational training program may include assignments within general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, audit, finance, program finance or other related areas based on development goals and organizational needs. Each individual will be expected to develop professional contacts and learn primary processes within each function. The individual will complete assignments/ projects given by respective department management and supervision to support the departments’ workload.  Reports to an Accounting or Finance Manager or Supervisor as assigned. Also reports to department/rotation manager on a regular basis to monitor status of rotational assignments. Works in a team environment with other Accounting and Finance personnel and departments. Maintains additional internal contact primarily with Information Systems, Contracts, and Purchasing dependent on areas of assignment. Interacts with various vendors, customers, and audit agencies dependent on areas of assignment.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

 

Develops overall knowledge of the accounting and finance function processes, assisting key departments while in rotation.  Completes all projects/assignments in time allotted and in accordance with deadlines. Demonstrates the ability to carry out core competencies as appropriate.  Completes training requirements. Must be able to work when needed including holidays, weekends, overtime, and occasional travel.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

Requires a college degree, with an emphasis in accounting, finance or other business related field of study and up to 2 years relevant experience.high school graduate  Preference given to emphasis in accounting or finance. This position requires the ability to read, understand and interpret financial data; to plan work and manage time effectively, to utilize effective interpersonal skills, to resolve conflicts, and to meet deadlines. Proficiency is also required in the following computer applications: Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with SAP a plus but not required. Must have the ability to express ideas in oral and written formats and demonstrate a high degree of personal flexibility.

 

 

 

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee is

regularly required to sit, use hands to fingers, handle or feel objects, controls, and to talk and hear.  Must be physically able to walk to all yard locations. The

noise level in this environment is usually moderate. 

 

 

 

 

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

Able to describe the key areas and functions of the accounting and finance functions at NASSCO.  Has an understanding of the overall operations and specific tasks assigned within each operational area of assignment and contributes to the achievement of operational goals and objectives.
