SUMMARY

 

  • Coordinate and manage the implementation of the company’s ABCM program within Production on all new (appropriate) contracts.
  • Develop and analyze all collected forms of Accuracy Control data while functioning as a specialist for various specific technical disciplines within the Accuracy Control Group.  This information will be used to ensure the accuracy of constructed assemblies, create process improvements, and instigate detail design changes, where necessary, to improve NASSCO’s Production Processes.
  • Conduct field surveys using various Metrology instruments and analyze resulting data & develop reports using Metrology software.
  • May be assigned duties and or tasks requiring Engineer skills and responsibilities within the department.
  • Serve as a highly effective point of contact (within specific discipline) in department.
  • To use, coordinate, and train other AC Technicians in use of Metrology Instrumentation and analytical software incl. Laser Tracker and Total Station functions.
  • Supervises 10 people (Accuracy control Analyst)
  • Manages a Budget for 20,000 hrs, $1,000,000.
  • Authority to represent Company business
  • Reports directly Manager Accuracy Control. Although this position has no formal line authority, people in this position are expected to provide guidance to the trades in matters concerning dimensional control and alignment of assembly units.
  • Must be able to work closely with Production Managers, Supervisor, and line personnel.
  • Interfaces with Engineering groups, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Bodies, and other disciplines as required.
  • Works independently within performance guidelines established by supervisor.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

 

  • Participate in the planning and manage the implementation of the AHCM (Safe Hull Const. Monitoring) process within in all stages of construction at the start of new contract where required.
  • Conduct field surveys using 3D instrumentation to collect Metrology data. Also develop analysis and reports on the collected data with various software tools.
  • Collects and documents Process Control, Shrinkage Control and Dimensional Control Data; preparation and distribution of source inspection check sheets; measure and verify alignment of steel assemblies; gather dimensional variance and analyze data; optical alignment/surveying.
  • Follows and develops Accuracy Control standards and procedures.
  • Organizes, conducts, and documents special studies examining the accuracy of NASSCO’s processes.
  • Record data and produce written reports.
    • Communicate results of field surveys in a timely manner.
    • Follows all NASSCO safety procedures.
    • Write Accuracy Control process control procedures.
    • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or other related education
  • Prefer design or Accuracy Control Experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise within discipline, with specialized knowledge of process within discipline.
  • Frequently takes on responsibility for special projects.
  • Understand and help develop and improve build strategy and productivity concepts.
  • Strong knowledge / skill of PC and CAD utilizing skill in: Technical writing, ship terminology, blueprint reading, math with a thorough understanding of geometry, statistical analysis knowledge, knowledge of Microsoft with emphasis on XLs.
  • Good communication skills (both verbal and written); problem solving skills will be utilized. Will frequently be required to work and make decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Requires knowledge of trade skills, and understanding of dimensional control techniques, and a familiarity with the use of advanced optical alignment equipment including Laser Tracker, Total Station, and advanced analytical software.
  • Lead improvement initiatives within department.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. Requires ability to commute physically to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Must remain alert and comply with all safety requirements. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed occasionally to dust, fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 50% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is relatively low to moderate in office environments. The noise level in the outdoor shipyard production environment is moderate to noisy 70% of time which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering. Additional Requirements.

 

 

PAY SCALE

$85,100 - $112,400 

 

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
