Job Summary

 

Sets up and operates flame cutting, and plasma cutting machines to cut metal plates and structural shapes to dimensions.  Contours and bevels as specified by blueprints, road maps, layout, work orders, or templates.  Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

 

Qualifications Standards

 

Require previous experience or training.  Knowledge and use of hand torch, ability to use flame cutting machine, plasma cutting, and capacity to read blueprints, road maps, layouts and work orders required.  Ability to understand verbal and written instructions (in English) required.  Must have ability to lift and handle metal stock as required.  Ability to markup parts with tracking information.  Must have ability to hear warning signals and read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings.  Must be available to work any assigned shift. 

 

Essential Job Tasks

  1. Set up Numerical Control Burning machines and complete simple programming.
  2. Connect hoses from machines to oxygen and fuel tanks.
  3. Select torch tip, compute gas pressure, mixture and speed of cut.
  4. Adjust length of radial arm to cut arcs and circles.
  5. Use hand torch and other tools to prep edges (grinding & routering) and preheat metal for removal of surface impurities.
  6. Other jobs duties as may be assigned relevant to the trade.

 

Materials, Tools, Equipment, Work Aids

 

Works with metal parts using a flame cutting NC Machine, a hand torch and other hand tools.  Personal protective equipment required.

 

Physical/Mental Involvement

 

Repetitive or prolonged bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, standing, manual dexterity, reaching, seeing, hearing, reclining and finger dexterity.  Routinely lifts between 50 and 75 lbs.  Hearing warning signals and reading and comprehending safety instructions.  Must be able to maintain general safety awareness and avoid hazards commonly present in employee’s work area.    

 

Marginal Job Tasks

 

General housekeeping required in work areas.  May be required to attend safety, quality, and/or process improvement meetings.

 

Environmental Factors

 

Exposure to fumes, odors, dust, and gases, various climates and temperatures, and low ventilation conditions, all of which can cause discomfort and/or respiratory difficulties.   Exposure to constantly moving machines and mechanical parts and high levels of constant noise.

 

 

 

 

PAYSCALE

$30.18 - $33.53

 

 

Hourly Roles

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the hourly range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
