SUMMARY
Administer self-insured Workers’ Compensation claims. Reports to the Workers’ Compensation Manager. Communicate with Claims Examiners, Claims Analysts, Workers’ Compensation Admin Supervisor, Workers’ Compensation Administrator, Workers’ Compensation Manager, Workers’ Compensation Assistants, Production, Human Resources, Medical Providers, Vendors, Attorneys, Injured workers, Department of Labor officials, and State WCAB officials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
- Administer Workers’ Compensation claims under the direction of the Workers’ Compensation Manager.
- Progressively complete milestones toward assuming the role of Claims Examiner, including designated Workers’ Compensation educational modules; company will pay 100% of approved tuition and provide required materials.
- Initiate and successfully complete coursework toward the Claims Practitioner in Workers’ Compensation (CPWC) certificate, beginning with the introductory course, Foundations of Workers’ Compensation.
- Develop proficiency with claims and medical terminology, standard claim forms, and established claims handling procedures.
- Learn to identify, classify, and administer various types of Workers’ Compensation claims (e.g., scheduled vs. unscheduled) and settlement types and stipulations (e.g., 908(i), 908(c), Compromise & Release, stipulations).
- Participate in and perform claim investigations, including maintaining claims files; learn to review and evaluate coverage and/or liability, and to obtain, analyze, and clearly document all necessary information.
- Ensure claim payments are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Learn to establish, document, and monitor claim reserves at appropriate intervals.
- Ensure claims handling is conducted in compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, and other legal requirements, and in accordance with company policies and management directives.
- Communicate claim information (e.g., work status, outcomes, decisions) clearly and professionally to all appropriate parties.
- Collaborate closely with the Workers’ Compensation Manager and other Workers’ Compensation staff.
- Successfully complete all assigned coursework and educational requirements.
- Actively participate in the implementation and monitoring of continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and control costs.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Business (Finance or Management preferred); Liberal Arts degrees will also be considered.
- Entry-level position

- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical requirements consist of four (4) to six (6) hours/day keyboarding activities, lengthy periods in sitting position. Working environment consists of an office setting. Periodic walking and standing required.
ACCOUNTABILITY
- Claim cost control.
- Full resolution of Employer’s liability for Workers’ Compensation benefits.
- Timely resolution of claims.
- Ensure accurate and timely benefits (payments, notices, etc.).
- Ensure accurate reserves.
PAY SCALE
$60,500 - $90,800
This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
