SUMMARY

Under general direction, maintains and supports NASSCO’s network and data access and security.  Independently determines and develops approach to meet objectives

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult security problems.  Solutions are imaginative, thorough, and practicable consist with NASSCO objectives.
  • Assist with the design and management of the network infrastructure.
  • Maintains systems to protect data from unauthorized user access.
  • Maintains perimeter protection, firewall, DMZ, intrusion detection systems and assists in the implementation of security policies and procedures.
  • Provides training and dissemination of information security policies and practices.
  • Updates and maintains procedures required to remain compliant with security policies.
  • Develop recommendations for new and amended security policies, procedures and technology enhancements as necessary to reflect changing technology.
  • Ensures LAN/WAN network security access and protects against unauthorized access, modification or destruction.
  • Identifies, reports, and resolves security violations.
  • Identifies potential threats and protects against them.
  • Performs log analysis and real time vulnerability scans.
  • Interacts and provides required documentation to Auditors and customers.
  • Utilizes diagnostic programs, web research and electronic test equipment to identify problems. 
  • Diagnoses security events through a variety of tools, including forensics.
  • Recommends procurements required for IT security related projects.
  • Determines resource requirements for existing and proposed moderately complex projects; assesses and presents benefits from implementation. 
  • Estimates, prepares, and manages project plans for medium projects with moderate assistance.  Assumes responsibility for decisions regarding tasks, expectations, and workloads of other team members.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent experience/education. 
  • Five to eight (5-8) years IT security experience and two (2) years network infrastructure support experience.
  • MSCE, CCNA, or CISSP certification or equivalent experience.  Knowledge of IT standards and application thereof.  Mastered the demands of an IT Security Analyst 2.
  • Complete understanding of Security policies, technical security safeguards and operational security measures.
  • Complete knowledge of desktop hardware, software and peripherals. 
  • Complete knowledge of network infrastructure and associated peripherals. 
  • Complete knowledge of server software and utilities. 
  • Complete knowledge of security requirements for Windows and general knowledge of UNIX and Linux operating systems; 
  • General knowledge of Cisco switches and routers and juniper firewalls; 
  • Complete knowledge of virus, spam, and spy ware prevention hardware and software; and security fields concepts, practices and procedures; security log analysis with identification and reporting of anomalies.
  • Ability to identify and resolve advanced network and server security concerns.  Ability to design and manage security architecture.
  • Ability to interact and provide information to IT management and department heads.
  • Ability to perform as a meeting leader and elicit high-quality information from attendees.
  • Able to verbally communicate technical material effectively to individuals and small groups.
  • Ability to write long or complex factual material containing significant qualitative or abstract information.
  • Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to fingers, hand or feel objects, or controls, and to talk and hear.
  • Must be physically able to walk to all yard locations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Prepares status reports to reflect progress against plan and updates assigned IT tickets with status.
  • Recognizes and acts upon IT situations with appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Implements changes per Change Management procedures.
  • Promotes the use of continuous improvement tools within IT.
  • Appraises IT management of activities/changes in user departments in context with company goals.
  • Contributes to the development and enforcement of server standards.

    ACCOUNTABILITY
    Responsible for the access to and protection of network and data security.  Ensures prudent security measures including policies and procedures are in place and affected users are educated in these procedures. Ensures regular monitoring of the infrastructure information security safeguards.
     
    WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
    Reports to the Manager, Network Systems. Maintains professional relationship with vendors. Works with Purchasing, Facilities, and IT management on IT Security requirements and issues. Works with departmental users and IT personnel to define network and data security requirements in support of their business needs.
