SUMMARY
Uses creative and analytical methods to develop, evaluate, and communicate the configuration and characteristics of a region, system, or component of the ship as governed by the assigned discipline, in compliance with internal and external requirements. Effective decision-maker for assigned discipline(s), seeking advice and/or direction appropriate to experience and tasking.
Prepare and maintain as directed: design studies, proposals, purchase specifications, engineering calculations, and pre-contract design packages for Mechanical Systems under technical guidance of a supervisor or system cognizant engineer. Communicate with other departments across the organization and provide them with technical assistance or information when needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Completes tasks with supervision and technical oversight at key junctures in development

When confronted with change, identifies scope creep and the implication of requirements changes within own group

Identifies potential problems within own products

Supports research into internal (e.g. production, planning) and external customer (e.g. ABS, Navy, USCG) issues, interpreting as assigned

Teaches known skills to other employees, and can mentor one Engineer in a specific skill as assigned
- Uses oral and written communication skills, including through e-mail, to draft presentations, reports, and external technical correspondence to line personnel for owners and production
- Participates in internal working groups, including documenting discussions, decisions, and outcomes
- Adheres to department processes

Locates requirement (such as rules, regulations, contracts, references) that applies to tasked work and applicable revisions
- Other responsibilities and duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent in Engineering or Applied Sciences, or Professional Engineer's License

Typically, at least two (2) years of practical experience, exclusive of education in engineering design. Operational or shipyard test or production experience may contribute to this requirement

Engineering in Training (EIT) Certificate desirable

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The essential functions of this role require work in both an office and industrial setting. The role requires prolonged periods of working in a stationary position, operating a computer, computer programs, and standard office equipment necessary to perform the essential duties. The role requires perceiving information and communicating effectively with others in person, online, and on the phone. The role also requires prolonged periods of working in indoor and outdoor industrial settings. Must have the ability to safely access, navigate, and traverse the shipyard, construction areas, production areas, ships, and warehouses. Must be able to transit uneven surfaces, and be agile to move quickly to avoid hazards and respond to unexpected obstacles. Must be able to observe, detect, identify, perceive, recognize, and process information to remain alert and timely comply with all safety requirements. Must be able to move, transport, and use equipment necessary to perform the essential duties. Duties performed on ships require ascending and descending stairs and ladders, transiting on scaffolding and at heights, transiting through manholes and other narrow, confined, or congested spaces. This position requires exposure to industrial areas which contain hazardous materials, loud noise (including sirens, horns, chipping, slamming, and hammering), dust, fumes, and exposure to weather.
PAY SCALE
$92,500 - $126,700
This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
