SUMMARY

Under minimal supervision, the Facilities Maintenance Technician will support a GD NASSCO satellite facility housing over 300 engineers, designers, and various support staff.  This position will undertake and oversee preventative maintenance activities for both the building’s interior and exterior, as well as its infrastructure and equipment. Additionally, this position will be active in projects that will range from administrative organizational projects to minor tenant improvement construction management projects, frequently in partnership with the enterprise’s off-site Facilities and Maintenance divisions.  This position serves as a point of contact for external maintenance contractors and provides clear directives to ensure the completion of required tasks.  Responsibilities encompass the upkeep of HVAC, plumbing, lighting, AV systems, food/beverage services, and special site events. It includes the oversight and performance of general maintenance tasks, such as painting, drywall work, carpentry, and the installation or relocation of equipment and furniture.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Sustain the day-to-day operations and assume responsibility for maintaining the physical asset of the property
  • Engages directly with GD NASSCO Maintenance, Facilities, Information Technology, and other administrative groups to effectively plan and schedule various building maintenance and improvement projects
  • Timely complete all work orders assigned through Jira, Confluence, Zoom Messenger, email, or verbally—to include interior painting, minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, lighting, floor repair, furniture movement/arrangement, and other assorted repairs and inspections.  Provides supports for work orders that require extra coordination, communication with contractors, and sourcing of parts and tools
  • Aggressively identifies problems or potential situations and works to determine the appropriate course of action
  • Actively researches and offers recommendations for system improvements aimed at improving efficiency, quality, and/or reducing costs
  • Executes routine repairs and maintenance tasks for the building’s interior floors, walls, ceilings, doors, drains, restrooms, lunchrooms, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and parking lot
  • Provide support for property activities, including set up and take down for scheduled meetings and special events
  • Manages improvement projects, encompassing project scope definition, contractor coordination, and supervision
  • Maintains administrative supplies building-wide, and the Engineering Library in partnership with Engineering Operations & Controls
  • Responds to equipment and building alarms during both operational and after-hours
  • Works with Leadership on furniture purchases, space coordination, scheduling, and installation
  • Performs additional duties and manages special projects as required

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma required—vocational degree and/or certification in HVAC, construction trades, or building maintenance is desired
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as Maintenance Technician, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent communication skills, positive approach to job, demonstrated accountability, and ability to handle multiple projects concurrently
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel etc.)  Experience with Jira, Confluence, and AutoCad a plus
  • Must be able and willing to work varying schedules when needed, which may include nights, weekends, and public holidays
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work primarily conducted in an office setting with good lighting.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.  Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. Must be physically able to commute to buildings throughout the shipyard. Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise

 

PAY SCALE

$54,100 - $70,000

 

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
