SUMMARY

The Engineering Planner I supports the coordination, tracking, and scheduling of engineering deliverables, ensuring that work is properly planned, assigned, and monitored throughout its lifecycle. This position works under direct supervision while learning company planning tools, procedures, and processes that ensure timely and accurate reporting of engineering progress. The Engineering Planner I assists in maintaining data integrity within planning systems and supports engineering leadership in achieving cost and schedule objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in developing and maintaining engineering schedules and work packages under supervision.
  • Input and update planning data in established systems (e.g., Deltek Open Plan, PM Compass, EPS, JIRA, or other engineering planning tools) with supervision.
  • Track the status of engineering deliverables and report progress to supervisors and project teams with supervision.
  • Support the collection, organization, and analysis of data used in planning and forecasting engineering work with supervision.
  • Coordinate with other departments (Project Management Office, Engineering Controls, Supply Chain) to ensure schedule alignment with supervision.
  • Maintain internal relationships with all engineering departments and externally with Planning, Contracts, Purchasing, and Cost Estimating.
  • Maintain documentation of engineering activities, milestone completions, and progress reports with supervision.
  • Assist with preparation of weekly or monthly engineering planning metrics and dashboards with supervision.
  • Follow established departmental procedures and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Learn company tools, shipbuilding processes, and planning principles.
  • Evaluate and execute change requests as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • 0–2 years of experience in planning, scheduling, or project coordination (engineering or manufacturing environment preferred)
  • Basic understanding of planning or scheduling concepts (work breakdown structures, milestones, progress tracking)
  • Exposure to project scheduling software (e.g., Deltek Open Plan, Microsoft Project)
  • Experience in a shipyard, manufacturing, or defense environment preferred
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings or technical documentation preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other common office software
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a collaborative team
  • Eagerness to learn engineering planning tools, shipbuilding processes, and data systems

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The essential functions of this role require work in both an office and industrial setting. The role requires prolonged periods of working in a stationary position, operating a computer, computer programs, and standard office equipment necessary to perform the essential duties. The role requires perceiving information and communicating effectively with others in person, online, and on the phone. The role also requires prolonged periods of working in indoor and outdoor industrial settings.  Must have the ability to safely access, navigate, and traverse the shipyard, construction areas, production areas, ships, and warehouses. Must be able to transit uneven surfaces, and be agile to move quickly to avoid hazards and respond to unexpected obstacles. Must be able to observe, detect, identify, perceive, recognize, and process information to remain alert and timely comply with all safety requirements. Must be able to move, transport, and use equipment necessary to perform the essential duties. Duties performed on ships require ascending and descending stairs and ladders, transiting on scaffolding and at heights, transiting through manholes and other narrow, confined, or congested spaces. This position requires exposure to industrial areas which contain hazardous materials, loud noise (including sirens, horns, chipping, slamming, and hammering), dust, fumes, and exposure to weather. 

 

PAY SCALE

$72,700 - $97,300

 

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
