SUMMARY

 

The Junior Planner/Scheduler is a member of a project management team to assist in the development and maintenance of the production schedule. The Junior Planner/Scheduler will also develop and provide production reports to the management team.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

 

  • The Junior Planner/Scheduler reports to the Manager, Repair Planning, for administrative matters and supports the Management team.
  • Maintains internal contacts with various departments including, Estimating, Engineering, Contracts, Purchasing, Production

Management and Trade supervision.  External contacts could include Subcontractors and NASSCO Customers.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

 

The Junior Planner/Scheduler is responsible for assisting in Project Planning, Schedule  Development, Schedule Maintenance and providing

Management Information.

 

Project Planning and Schedule Development 15%

  • Produce Milestone and Key Event lists
  • Develop  Work Breakdown
  • Assign resources
  • Determine work sequence and establish work relationships
  • Integrate project into NASSCO Management Systems
  • Establish Budget Baseline

 

Schedule Maintenance 50%
  • Collect and process work progress
  • Incorporate contract modifications 
  • Develop detail schedules as required
  • Maintain the Budget Baseline
  • Upload schedule and budget information to the Corporate Management Systems

 

 

Management Information 30%

 

Development of reports for Ship Management

Development/submission reports to the customer

  • Progress report
  • Production Schedule
  • Contract Status Report
  • Manpower Loading Report
  • Material Status Report
  • Contractors Test Schedule
  • Cost Performance Reports
  • List of Milestones and Key Events
  • Status of Work Report
  • Material Delivery Schedule

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Work experience with a shipyard, defense contractor or other construction environment preferred.
  • General knowledge of planning, scheduling, budgeting techniques preferred.  
  • Personal computer experience, possessing a basic understanding of software and spreadsheet maintenance.
  • A self-starter with the aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to communicate orally, including effective participation in discussions and meetings.
  • Ability to communicate concisely in writing.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

Requires ability to physically commute to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities.  Must be capable of

climbing ladders and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching.  Must maintain mental alertness and all safety requirements, particularly when transiting in production areas.  While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to dust, welding/burning fumes, and smoke.  Must be able to spend up to 50% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates.  The noise level is usually low to moderate in office environments and moderate to noisy in production environments 70% of the time. Production noise may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.

  •   Accurate and timely submission of products will act as a tangible measure of success.
  •   Intangible measures will include an assessment by the Manager, Repair Planning, and others as appropriate, of the Junior     Planner/Scheduler’s attitude, approach to work, willingness, desire and ability.
  •   The Junior Planner/Scheduler will be assessed in both technical and general administrative categories.
