Job Summary
The installation of multiple metal photo labels showing component identification that are in line with ship spec. system diagram e.g. fuel oil, lube oil, JP-5, hydraulic oil, seawater, chill water, refrigerant, fire main…
Color code painting of multiple system valve handles as per ship spec drawing, ref system e.g. above.
Every system has a designated color code to represent the liquid in use; valve handles are to be painted throughout the ship as per ship spec. drawing.
Pipe wrap system identification by means of designated color-coded system decals.
Multiple pipes throughout the ship are to be pipe wrapped in accordance with ship spec. drawings representing system/ flow.
Stencil paint identification of material in accordance with ship spec drawings.
The cardstock stencil cutouts will be used to paint text identification on material throughout the ship.
Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
Qualification Standards
Previous experience or training is recommended.
Applicants must be familiar with reading ship spec. system drawing, system identification, manufacturing and packaging of labels, and all shipboard systems including mechanical, electrical, pipe, damage control, aviation, ordinance, ventilation, steam, fuel oil, lube oil etc.
Must be able to understand written and verbal instructions, hear warning signals, and read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations, and warnings. The ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and be able to work any shift
Work well with others and follow safety standards.
Essential Job Tasks
- Installation of metal photo label plates on vessel machinery, vents, doors, hatches, fire stations, electrical and power equipment, and other related areas throughout the ship.
- Pipe wrap system/ flow identification.
- Valve handle color code paint identification.
- Stencil paint material throughout vessel.
- Manufacture and package labels according to the requirements and instructions.
- Other tasks may be assigned relevant to the trade.
Materials, Tools Equipment, Work Aids
Stencil machines, metal punches, metal shears, taps, and various hand and power tools. Personal protective equipment required.
Physical/Mental Involvement
Works in all areas of the shipyard and on board ships requiring repetitive or prolonged bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, standing, walking, balancing, pushing, pulling, seeing, hearing, and manual and finger dexterity. Routinely performs work in physically awkward and demanding positions including climbing ladders or equipment, reaching above the shoulder or out in front, occasionally lowering self into confined spaces, and crawling through small openings as needed. Must be able to maintain general safety awareness by hearing warning signals, reading and comprehending safety instructions, and avoid hazards commonly present in an employee’s work area.
Marginal Job Tasks
Perform housekeeping, including sweeping, in all work areas. Attend safety, quality, and/or process improvement meetings as required.
Environmental Factors
Exposure to fumes, odors, dust, gases, various climates and temperatures, and low ventilation conditions, all of which may cause discomfort and/or respiratory difficulties. Exposure to constantly moving machines and mechanical parts and high levels of constant noise
PAYSCALE:
$33.10- $34.43
This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the hourly range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
