Job Summary
Performs electrical repairs and maintenance to the yard facilities, utilities, power distribution, and production equipment. Performs new installations and modifications to yard facilities, utilities, power distribution, and production equipment. Installs and removes temporary portable production support equipment, utility distributions, and other services on board ships and in the yard. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
Qualification Standards
Requires a high school education. Requires a trade school certificate in electrical training or equivalent work experience performing electrical repairs. Must be able to read and troubleshoot equipment and systems from schematics, diagrams and other manufactures' documentation. Must be able to work any shifts, heights, and enclosed spaces. Must have a valid drivers license. Must be trained in energy recognition, electrical safety protection equipment, and lockout/tagout procedures. Must have specialized training in basic electronics (2 year AS degree) or equivalent experience working on more complex drive systems and other controls, such as controls found in the new Gantry crane drives, PLC controls, Fire Alarm Systems, Telephone Systems sensing circuits and other more complex analog circuits found on newer equipment.
Essential Job Tasks
1. Inspects equipment to insure safe and reliable operations
2. Performs equipment service and repairs on equipment using the specified tools and test equipment.
3. Fills out various required reports and documentation, such as; work orders, inspection forms, discrepancy sheets, log books, and service forms.
Materials, Tools Equipment, Work Aids
- Test equipment such as; pressure and flow gauges, voltage meter, current meter, megometer, tachometer, multimeter, infrared optics, sonic testers, circuit testers, high voltage testers, high pot, ground fault circuit testers, circuit tracers, etc. Other equipment installed meters and gauges.
- Tools and work aids such as; soldering irons and guns, hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, bearing and gear pullers, hand and table saws, bench grinders, files polishers, port-a-powers, hand trucks, lifts, chain falls, tack welding equipment, jib cranes, man lifts, forklifts, scissor lifts, conduit benders, tubing benders, crimpers, and bench vises. And the use of the Oscilloscope.
- Performs installations, repairs and maintenance on all electrical distributions through out the facilities and on board the ships and barges.
- Performs repairs to production equipment and portable production support equipment in the facilities and on-board ships and barges. Production equipment is defined as equipment utilizing electrical switches relay logic type, and simple analog controls.
- Trouble shoots more complex analog control and simple digital control circuits.
- Isolate problems utilizing digital readouts and understanding error codes.
Physical/Mental Involvement
Lifting/carrying up to 60 lbs. regularly; pushing/pulling, standing, reclining, walking, sitting, kneeling, climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, bending, reaching, handling, fingering, seeing and hearing. Maintaining continuous safety awareness, reasoning and making judgments.
Environmental Factors
Exposed to wind, wet and humid conditions when working outdoors or on board ship. Temperatures and ventilation may become uncomfortable. Exposed to fumes, odors, dust, gases and toxic chemicals. Works more than 50% of the time outside. Exposed to constantly moving machines and mechanical parts, vibration, loud noise. Must be able to work in varied whole body positions to perform needed repair work and work in confined areas with limited visibility
PAY SCALE
$28.53 - $32.88
Hourly Roles
This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the hourly range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
