SUMMARY

 

Coordinate release of materials to Production based upon NASSCO’s work release authorization policy to the mutually agreed location on the desired date.  Support production supervision through daily meetings and communication. Provides material ordering and expediting support. Maintains internal contact with Supply Chain, Planning, Engineering and Production.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

 

  • Releases materials to support the schedule as mutually understood by Production Control and Production.
  • Coordinates with receiving, warehousing, and NASSCO fabrication shops to mitigate any schedule impact problems because of late material.
  • Walks through Production areas daily to assure first hand understanding of production progress and material issues.
  • Coordinates the shipping of material to both on-site and off-site locations.
  • Report material availability and shortages status to Ship’s Management and Trade Supervision as requested.
  • Ensures Kanban stations have appropriate levels of inventory.
  • Investigates misplaced and damaged material and processes necessary paperwork.
  • Deals directly with Supply Chain Management to resolve material issues and expedite delivery to maintain schedule.
  • Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • High school graduate or equivalent, plus at least one (1) years’ experience in material handling processes. 
  • Knowledge of computerized material systems (MACPAC, MMS, LMS and JIRA), material flow, expediting, and basic shipbuilding techniques is required. 
  • Proficient and professional oral and written communications is essential.
  • Trade specific knowledge a plus.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Work primarily conducted in an office setting with good lighting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.  Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. Requires ability to commute physically to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Must remain alert and comply with all safety requirements.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed occasionally to dust, fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 25% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is relatively low to moderate in office environments.  The noise level in the outdoor shipyard production environment is moderate to noisy 25% of time which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.

 

Must be able to climb on and around ships.  Must be able to handle stressful situations.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to commute to various areas in shipyard and Naval Stations.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to dust, welding/burning fumes, and smoke.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

 

Results directly affect Production's performance to schedule and budget by providing material information for proper production planning and by expediting in plant material processing.

 

PAY SCALE

$54,700 - $72,700

       

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
