SUMMARY

The Organizational Development (OD) manager position acts as a liaison and advisor to the leadership team and facilitates the organization's development initiatives. The OD manager oversees Human Resource programs to enhance the effectiveness of managers and teams to increase productivity and customer satisfaction. Assesses critical business issues and integrates human resource projects and strategic plans to achieve business goals and operational objectives. Facilitates design and implementation of reengineering and/or reorganization efforts. Provides development, coaching and training for leadership. Sets priorities and goals of the work of Organizational Development team.  Directly collaborates with all levels of leadership. Works independently within broad objectives agreed upon by Sr. Leadership team.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Conducts needs assessments to determine measures required to enhance employee job performance and overall company performance.
  • Designs and implements process interventions in response to complex organizational issues; uses innovative tools to promote process improvement, customer focus, and overall organizational effectiveness; able to support teams in various stages of team development.
  • Provides a broad range of consultative services to Sr. Leadership regarding human capital management.
  • Provides expertise in strategy development and execution, planning and facilitation of Human Resource team efforts.
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of development programs for management and employees.
  • Assesses training effectiveness in terms of employee accomplishments and performance.
  • Oversees the work of Organizational Development team. 
  • Consults with management on performance, organizational and leadership matters.
  • Advises on team design and performance.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree preferred in Human Resource Administration, Industrial or Organizational Psychology, MBA, Organizational Development, or a directly related field of study.
  • Four to six (4-6) years of leadership experience in HR consulting, Organizational Development, Training, or HR Project/Program Management or directly related leadership role.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) credential preferred.
  • Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP), Human Performance Improvement (HPI), or Professional Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
  • Proven track record of strong facilitation skills; delivering presentations to all levels of employees and management.
  • Must possess strong collaboration and consulting skills.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Specific abilities required include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perceptions, and ability to focus.  Regularly required to sit, use hands to fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and maintain the ability to commute to other buildings in and outside the shipyard for meetings, presentations, and training.  Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, and moderate levels of noise. 

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Responsible for preparation, delivery and evaluation of impactful development programs.
  • Responsible for setting expectations and managing performance of the Organizational Development team.
  • Responsible for oversight and administration of the OD budget; completes assigned tasks within cost and schedule commitments with quality output.
