SUMMARY

  • Directs development of assigned projects across engineering organizations, in order to ensure that output meets all external and internal customer performance requirements
  • Principal point of contact on assigned projects for customers and other NASSCO Departments
  • Empowered to sign selected official Engineering correspondence between NASSCO and Owners, Regulatory Bodies or Classification Societies
  • Prepare and maintain as directed, design studies and proposals to include cost, design and efficiency data
  • Reports to Engineering Manager or Supervisor
  • Will interface with customers, Program Manager, Engineering Management, other Engineering sections, Production, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Vendors, Regulatory Bodies, and other disciplines as required
  • Will be informed of priorities and be allowed to schedule work as necessary to complete required tasks
  • Will supervise task teams in accomplishment of project work
  • Participates effectively in design development and problem resolution teams. Will interface with other Engineering groups, Production, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Suppliers, Regulatory Bodies, and other disciplines as required

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports Senior Project Engineer, Program Manager, or other assigned project leader
  • Participates as a Leader in projects or sub-projects, including areas of ship or other product design, marketing, process improvement, R&D and other internal projects as directed by Management
  • Pro-active in seeking out and correcting integration issues among engineering disciplines during design process
  • Performs analysis of program costs/schedules and control data
  • Represents assigned projects cost, schedule and technical status at meetings
  • Leads routine meetings with Owners and Regulatory Bodies
  • Develops Engineering schedules for pre-Contract design development activities and other assigned projects
  • Responsible for coordination development of sections of Ships Spec
  • Coordinates tracking, analysis and response to Owner and Regulatory Body issues, including coordination of scoping and actions plans for routine issues
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned
  • Provides suggested interpretations of Regulatory Body rules, US Navy Specifications and Industry Standards
  • Prepare scope for change orders and Engineering estimates
  • Demonstrates professional and business skill aptitude

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College graduate with Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Business Administration. Five (5) years industry experience, or three (3) years in marine industry
  • Operational knowledge and experience with the engineering process. Knowledge of the NASSCO business, planning, and estimating process. Database creation and maintenance skills. Report preparation and presentation skills.  Knowledge of cost schedule control and planning systems.  Facilitation, consensus building experience
  • Demonstrated experience in organization and administration
  • Represents NASSCO at client meetings. Strong communication skills (written/oral).  Makes presentations to senior staff.  Leader of project special assignment teams.  Ensures technical coordination
  • Ability to understand and apply Regulatory Body rules and regulations, US Navy and Industry standards
  • Effective decision-maker requiring some guidance on occasions
  • Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The essential functions of this role require work in both an office and industrial setting. The role requires prolonged periods of working in a stationary position, operating a computer, computer programs, and standard office equipment necessary to perform the essential duties. The role requires perceiving information and communicating effectively with others in person, online, and on the phone. The role also requires prolonged periods of working in indoor and outdoor industrial settings.  Must have the ability to safely access, navigate, and traverse the shipyard, construction areas, production areas, ships, and warehouses. Must be able to transit uneven surfaces, and be agile to move quickly to avoid hazards and respond to unexpected obstacles. Must be able to observe, detect, identify, perceive, recognize, and process information to remain alert and timely comply with all safety requirements. Must be able to move, transport, and use equipment necessary to perform the essential duties. Duties performed on ships require ascending and descending stairs and ladders, transiting on scaffolding and at heights, transiting through manholes and other narrow, confined, or congested spaces. This position requires exposure to industrial areas which contain hazardous materials, loud noise (including sirens, horns, chipping, slamming, and hammering), dust, fumes, and exposure to weather. 

 

PAY SCALE

$98,600 - $149,400 

 

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
