SUMMARY

Functions as a modeler for the Hull Structural Detail Design team. Modeler should be able to produce/modify Hull Planar structural panels in a 3D-CAD platform, experience in Aveva Marine is a plus. This includes development of production-ready panels with all attributes including, bevels/chamfers, excess, edge surplus, weld hold-backs, grinding and other production requirements 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Completes products while occasionally consulting with supervision and technical resources

  • When confronted with change, actively controls scope creep and identifies the implication of change within group and downstream customers

  • Identifies problems on own and other products on assigned discipline
  • Anticipates roadblocks on assignments and mitigates their impact based on experience

  • Provides solutions to a wide range of difficult problems or technical issues within assigned work scope

  • Serves as focal point for discussing the organization’s agreed technical position with external-to-engineering SMEs and representatives (such as ABS surveyors, Production Superintendents, Managers, Deputy Ship Design Managers)

  • Conducts presentations such as a small group within Engineering

  • Coordinates and facilitates internal and external working groups (such as may involve customer and regulatory bodies), including documenting discussions, decisions, and outcomes

  • Acts as a reliable resource for others by using engineering and process knowledge combined with strong negotiating skills

  • Periodically provides technical leadership to teams in executing significant and/or complex specific projects

  • Mentors the group to advance overall knowledge in the field and other related disciplines

  • Proactively distributes knowledge in areas of expertise

  • Recommends valuable improvements to department processes
  • Understands how requirements (such as, rules, regulations, contracts, references) connect to each other and order of precedence

  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent in Engineering or Applied Sciences, or Professional Engineer's License

  • Typically, at least seven (7) years of practical experience, exclusive of education in engineering design.  Operational or shipyard test or production experience may contribute to this requirement

  • Professional Engineering (PE) License and/or advanced degree desirable

  • Qualifying skills include contributing to the department's team environment with a consistently positive attitude, a mindset to actively seek improving oneself, teammates, and work processes, initiative, accountability, commitment, and flexibility to changing assignments and processes

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The essential functions of this role require work in both an office and industrial setting. The role requires prolonged periods of working in a stationary position, operating a computer, computer programs, and standard office equipment necessary to perform the essential duties. The role requires perceiving information and communicating effectively with others in person, online, and on the phone. The role also requires prolonged periods of working in indoor and outdoor industrial settings.  Must have the ability to safely access, navigate, and traverse the shipyard, construction areas, production areas, ships, and warehouses. Must be able to transit uneven surfaces, and be agile to move quickly to avoid hazards and respond to unexpected obstacles. Must be able to observe, detect, identify, perceive, recognize, and process information to remain alert and timely comply with all safety requirements. Must be able to move, transport, and use equipment necessary to perform the essential duties. Duties performed on ships require ascending and descending stairs and ladders, transiting on scaffolding and at heights, transiting through manholes and other narrow, confined, or congested spaces. This position requires exposure to industrial areas which contain hazardous materials, loud noise (including sirens, horns, chipping, slamming, and hammering), dust, fumes, and exposure to weather. 

 

 

PAY SCALE 

$110,900 - $155,000

 

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
