   SUMMARY

 

Provide cross-department coordination, support, and communication of technical issues and information in support of department-wide or Director-specific initiatives.  Reports to the Director of Functional Engineering. Participates effectively in design development and problem resolution teams.  Will interface with other Engineering groups, Production, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Suppliers, Regulatory Bodies, and other disciplines as required.  Will work closely with, and occasionally provide relief duties for other staff at all levels of the organization.  Daily duties will involve supporting multiple customers in the organization on projects of widely varying complexity, duration, and priority.

 

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

 

        Enhances communication of engineering information out of, and the collection and analysis of engineering performance information within the Functional Engineering department while providing technical support. 

  • Assists in analysis of tests, trials, root-cause analyses, and other experiments, such as: noise surveys, vibration surveys, machinery signatures, and shaft alignment surveys.
  • Provides suggested interpretations of Regulatory Body rules, US Navy Specifications and Industry Standards.
  • Prepares scope including analytical support for change orders and Engineering estimates.
  • Prepare and compile procedural information, training documents, new work proposals, scopes of work, specifications, cost or estimate justifications, and technical reports.
  • Represent company on official business, as directed, including participating in presentations.
  • Communicates effectively with internal customers ranging from business development and accounting to guarantee engineering and supply chain.  Communicates with external organizations, including shipbuilding customers and regulatory bodies.  .
  • Participates effectively in problem resolution teams and provides other technical support as needed and directed across Functional Engineering.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
  • Participate in process improvement activities.

 

    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Naval Architecture, closely related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education.  E.I.T Certificate and experience, particularly marine design experience, is desirable. Appropriate design experience (8 years minimum) may be substituted for an engineering degree. Minimum of 18 months work experience in the Marine field is highly preferred.

  • Maintenance of strong professional interpersonal relationships during periods of intensive activity and challenging schedule.
  • Ability to understand and apply Regulatory Body rules and regulations, US Navy and Industry standards.
  • Excellent communication verbally, graphically, and in writing, including both planned and spontaneous presentations, organized and detailed technical reports, and simple drawing or drafting.
  • Independence and Initiative, yet a willingness to seek guidance from organizational superior or others in the organization.

 

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Requires ability to work in office environment, go aboard ship during construction, climb ladders, commute and work throughout shipyard as required, and participate in Sea Trials when required.  Work will generally be confined to a clean office environment but will at times, require participation in loud, dusty, dirty, areas. 

 

    ACCOUNTABILITY

 

Completes all tasks within schedule, budget and quality commitments.  Work products are accurate and conform to high standards of quality.
