SUMMARY
Supervises a group of personnel, potentially composed of diverse talent, including engineers, designers, planners, analysts, and administrative personnel. Assists Senior Supervisor and/or Manager with planning, scheduling, and group development. Assigns work, evaluates quality and performance, ensures compliance with company policies, to include proper time keeping, and provides updates and status to senior staff as requested. Assigns goals and evaluates assigned personnel both formally and informally. Responsible for quality, schedule, and cost performance of assigned tasks.
The Engineering Planning Supervisor directs a group that creates, manages, and maintains engineering schedules. This role ensures the development of schedules, work packages, and progress reports. The supervisor acts as a critical liaison between departments to ensure seamless collaboration and effective communication.
In this role, the supervisor drives schedule development, process improvement initiatives, identifies opportunities for enhanced efficiency, and monitors performance trends. Their role involves tackling planning obstacles, prioritizing project duties, and putting in place organized training to enhance team skills. The Planning Engineering Supervisor, leveraging their skills in shipyard planning and data interpretation to ensures their team’s work strengthens the company’s overall goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides direction and technical guidance to supervised group of three (3) or less direct reports, resulting in their completion of all tasks on schedule, within budget, and according to defined quality commitments
- Is accountable for subordinates’ individual performance, leads direct employees’ skill development, and monitors their progress
- Responsible for all time charging by assigned personnel in accordance with company policy
- In partnership with Senior Supervisors and/or Management, prepares supervised employees’ goals, evaluates performance, and makes recommendations for promotions, terminations, and other personnel adjustments
- Ensures all time charging by assigned personnel in accordance with company policy and assists more senior organizational leaders to resolve conflicts within assigned group
- Assists more senior organizational leaders to host regular staff meetings to provide department updates and progress on tasks
- Attends relevant meetings to stay informed about upcoming changes and represents the teams’ interests, providing feedback
- Assists more senior organizational leaders to develop and maintain schedules to ensure smooth implementation of changes
- Interfaces with other Engineering groups, as well as Production, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Vendors, and Regulatory Bodies as required, to stay informed of company priorities
- Represents their group to internal and external customers, assisting more senior organizational leaders with presentations as needed
- Facilitates conflict resolution between parties to ensure enterprise needs are achieved
- Supports the creation of detailed and accurate BOEs for new projects, ensuring all estimates are based on thorough analysis and reliable data
- Utilizes historical data, industry benchmarks, and expert judgment to inform and validate estimates
- Collaborates with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and insights for developing estimates
- Completes other position duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering field or equivalent
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience within a marine or technical field
- Demonstrates leadership potential in planning and organizing work assignments to meet business objectives
- Competent using Microsoft Office, Jira, Confluence, Tableau, and Jama
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The essential functions of this role require work in both an office and industrial setting. The role requires prolonged periods of working in a stationary position, operating a computer, computer programs, and standard office equipment necessary to perform the essential duties. The role requires perceiving information and communicating effectively with others in person, online, and on the phone. The role also requires prolonged periods of working in indoor and outdoor industrial settings. Must have the ability to safely access, navigate, and traverse the shipyard, construction areas, production areas, ships, and warehouses. Must be able to transit uneven surfaces, and be agile to move quickly to avoid hazards and respond to unexpected obstacles. Must be able to observe, detect, identify, perceive, recognize, and process information to remain alert and timely comply with all safety requirements. Must be able to move, transport, and use equipment necessary to perform the essential duties. Duties performed on ships require ascending and descending stairs and ladders, transiting on scaffolding and at heights, transiting through manholes and other narrow, confined, or congested spaces. This position requires exposure to industrial areas which contain hazardous materials, loud noise (including sirens, horns, chipping, slamming, and hammering), dust, fumes, and exposure to weather.
PAY SCALE
$122,600 - $158,600
This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
