SUMMARY

Responsible for supervising a staff consisting of a diverse group of engineers, specialists and designers specifically relating to Logistics Support. Assists the Assistant Manager, Manager and Director in planning, scheduling and evaluating the Integrated Logistics Support team.  Assigns work, evaluates quality and performance, ensures compliance with company policies and provides updates and status to senior staff as requested.  Assigns goals, mentors, coaches and evaluates assigned personnel both formally and informally.  Works with the various customers and vendors to reach resolution on complicated issues. Responsible for quality, schedule and cost performance of assigned tasks.

 

Reports to Senior Supervisor, Manager, Director or VP.   Provides direction and technical guidance to subordinates.  Will interface with other Engineering groups, Production, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Vendors, Regulatory Bodies, and other disciplines as required.  Will be informed of priorities and allowed to schedule work as necessary to complete required tasks.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Support advanced planning and change management efforts.
  • Prepare weekly status report for management team.
  • Ensure contractual compliance through a well-managed quality process.
  • Track, coordinate, and manage a disciplined departmental VFI review process that meets schedule milestones.
  • Monitor customer and vendor comments and push for resolution.
  • Represent the department in discussions with Owners, Vendors, etc. on technical subjects.
  • Prepare subordinates’ goals, evaluate performance in Success Factors and make recommendations to Engineering Management for promotions, terminations and other personnel adjustments.
  • Responsible for all time charging by assigned personnel IAW company policy.
  • Ensure on time performance and cost.
  • Make presentations and flow charts to aid in status updates, continuous improvement and updated procedure roll-out
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

 

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree with five (5) years industry experience required.
  • Must have proven track record of leadership with an ability to independently plan, prioritize, organize, and monitor project tasks with limited oversight.
  • Strong sense of internal motivation to transform and modernize existing processes. A “start-up” mentality.
  • Aptitude for developing new technical solutions that automate and simplify departmental workflows.
  • Willingness to dive into complex technical issues and competently present them to both customer and senior staff with poise and authority.
  • Ability to work effectively in a group and to actively cultivate a vibrant team environment with a focus on negotiation and consensus building across diverse stakeholders.
  • Willingness to make difficult decisions with incomplete or conflicting information.
  • Work will generally be confined to a clean office environment but may at times require participation in dusty, dirty areas, requiring full adherence to NASSCO’s safety policies.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires ability to work in office environment, and when required go aboard ships during construction, climb ladders, work throughout the yard, and participate in Sea Trials.  Work will generally be confined to a clean office environment but may at times require activity in dusty, dirty areas, requiring full adherence to NASSCO’s safety policies.  Position is not recompensed with overtime pay but additional effort, beyond an 8-hour day will be expected as necessary to support commitments.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

Responsible for groups’ achievement of schedule, cost and quality commitments.  Accountable for subordinates’ individual performance.
