SUMMARY

 

Leads, guides, coordinates, supervises a team that may comprise Working Supervisor, Team Leaders, Journey level workers, Trainees, Helpers, and subcontracted labor. Responsibilities include, but not limited to Marine Diesel Engine Maintenance and testing.

 

Reports to General Supervisor I, General Supervisor II, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, or SOC Management. Interacts vertically and horizontally within own organization, other trades and company. Has contact with customers and vendors.  Supervises Working Supervisor, Team Leaders, Journey level workers, Trainees and Helpers.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

 

  • Plans and schedules team activities.
  • Evaluates team performance.
  • Identifies problem areas and initiates corrective action.
  • Adhere to schedule objectives, cost and quality.
  • Monitors performance to safety policies.
  • Coordinates production with other production supervisors, trades, quality assurance and management.
  • Complies with organization and company administrative procedures.
  • Reviews documentation and identifies deficiencies and potential problems.
  • Technical expertise and experience for specific trade.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge/Experience in the following:

  • Hydraulic and pneumatic maintenance, main propulsion system (reduction gears, shafts, line shaft bearing, thrust bearings, coupling, CPP hubs and fix propellers, rudders, steering gear system water jet propulsion).
  • Boat davit and crane testing
  • Pump and valve maintenance
  • Condenser maintenance
  • Advance laser pump and shaft alignment procedures (rotor line, laser tracker, strain gage and shaft weight)
  • Advanced blue print reading
  • Manufacturing technology tools and must be familiar with NAVY lock out-tag out process
  • Has specific knowledge of shipbuilding processes/procedures
  • Reads and writes effectively, speaks with clarity and listens actively.
  • Has solid math skills.
  • Understands company and organization policies and standards; knows products and services.
  • Uses computers and networked systems when appropriate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work occurs in both an outdoor shipyard environment and in an office setting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.  Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. 

Requires ability to commute physically to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Must remain alert and comply with all safety requirements.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed occasionally to dust, fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 80% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is relatively low to moderate in office environments.  The noise level in the outdoor shipyard production environment is moderate to noisy 70% of time which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.

 

Additional requirements: Position requires the ability to walk on scaffolding and work at heights aboard vessels under construction or repair, carry, raise, lower, push or pull objects up to 50 lbs., and requires the ability to distinguish color.

Directly accountable for the safety, quality cost and schedule performance to the production team.

 

 

 

 

 

 

PAY SCALE;

$77,100- $118,100

 

 

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
