SUMMARY

 

This position is responsible for analysis of current and projected material requirements to support construction demand company-wide.  Establish requisition quantities that will support construction, maintain inventory turns, and control inventory costs.  Authorize, monitor, control and update the system for material issues.  Prepare and monitor material transfers. Assist with the development of procedures and performance measures used for continuous process improvements, which will reduce material costs and improve efficiencies. Reports to SCM Department supervision/ management as assigned.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES 

 

  • Daily management of supply chain inventory levels using MRP- MacPac
  • Analyze material requirements from MacPac and issue requisitions to buyers for assigned commodities
  • Resolve planning problems identified by appropriate Planning personnel and Production supervisors 
  • Coordinate with other Production and Planning organizations
  • Work with various warehouses for prompt material receipt 
  • Coordinate with NASSCO Suppliers for order tracking and ensuring material availability supporting the operations teams
  • Support and implement department process improvement initiatives
  • Set up and manage safety stock for the assigned commodities
  • Perform inventory adjustments in MacPac and work directly with warehouses to minimize inventory accuracy issues. Determine root causes of inventory and material discrepancies
  • Bring complex issues to the attention of Management
  • Process of unplanned demand requirements due to Lost, Damaged or Engineering scope changes (LED)
  • Perform material transfers as required according to different procedures. This is dependent on type of contract in work
  • Generate executive reports and presentations
  • Conduct training and assist Material Analysts
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant technical, engineering or architectural manufacturing, plus three (3) years of directly related Materials analysis experience.
  • Knowledge of:
  • NASSCO Purchasing practices
  • Drawing/ Engineering standard reading
  • MacPac MRP – Material Activity Control, Production Activity Control
  • NASSCO MMS Material Management System
  • NASSCO Manufacturing Standards
  • NASSCO Production work processes and procedures
  • Stage of Construction (SOC) breakdown and philosophy
  • Build Strategy Concepts
  • Electronic data processing
  • Logistics knowledge (land, see and air)
  • Planning processes.
  • NASSCO safety policy.
  • Skill in:
  • Bill of Material analysis
  • Development of detailed plans and schedules
  • Correction of technical conflicts between Engineering, Materials, and Production
  • Assessing impact of late material, schedule changes, and manpower requirements
  • Communication orally and in writing, including effective preparation and conduct of meetings
  • Interpersonal working relationships, with emphasis on cooperation and teamwork
  • Strong PC skills in Microsoft suite

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Work primarily conducted in an office setting with good lighting.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.  Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. Must be physically able to commute to buildings throughout the shipyard. Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise.

Accountable for supporting the internal customer through the on-time procurement and delivery of materials and services of the right quantity, quality, and best value for GD NASSCO in accordance with the 

 

standards of conduct and qcquisition. Responsible for assisting department managers in implementation of policy. 

 

 

Payscale: $62,400 - $89,500
