SUMMARY

Develops ship unique, system level technical manuals from available engineering data in accordance with applicable ship construction contract requirements, commercial standards and established procedures.  Develops contractually compliant equipment manuals from Vendor Furnished Information and OEM documentation. Reviews related vendor furnished information and provide corrective feedback when required. Collaborates with ILS Provisioning team to ensure alignment between tech manuals and Logistics Support Information. Validates special purpose and equipment technical manuals to ensure manuals accurately reflect the installed equipment/system configuration.

 

Will work directly with all project stakeholders, including customers, regulatory bodies, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Program Management Office, Production, Ship’s Management, Quality Assurance, Planning, Cost Estimating, and other disciplines as required.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researches and develops preliminary and final technical manuals in accordance with provided standards and procedures with supervision
  • Applies technical knowledge in review of equipment and special purpose technical manuals for content
  • Applies contract requirements in review of equipment and special purpose technical manuals for format
  • Prepares format and technical review comments on equipment and special purpose technical manuals using standardized forms
  • Supports Tech Writers 2 and 3 and Supervision in efforts to resolve of technical issues internally, as well as with customer and regulatory bodies
  • Supports the Supervisor in ad hoc documentation projects
  • Demonstrates professionalism and broad technical competence
  • Actively contributes to the department’s team environment with a consistently positive attitude
  • Completes all tasks within quality, budget and schedule commitments

  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Communication (English/Journalism) or technical discipline
  • Must be able to learn how to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings, diagrams, schematics, and related documents
  • An ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and translate them into clear, easy-to-understand content
  • Must have an attention to detail
  • Willingness to dive into complex technical issues and work with leadership to resolve in accordance with contract requirements
  • Work with various subject matter experts to compose technical documentation
  • Ability to work effectively in a group and to actively cultivate a vibrant team environment with a focus on negotiation and consensus-building across diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to conform to company style guide and other style guides as needed
  • Must have excellent English language skills, both oral and written
  • Must have Microsoft Office Suite and PDF editor experience

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The essential functions of this role are performed in an office setting. The role requires prolonged periods of working in a stationary position, operating a computer, computer programs, and standard office equipment necessary to perform the essential duties. The role requires perceiving information and communicating effectively with others in person, online, and on the phone.  

 

 

PAY SCALE 

$66,500 - $86,000

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
