SUMMARY
This position supports the Rigging Department by teaching and/or coordinating with others to develop and teach training and certification classes. In addition, this position will be responsible for training needs assessment and development of initiatives to sustain training. The Training and Development Specialist will also supervise the Rigging Planning Team as well as be in charge of the Process Improvements and Safety for the entire Rigging Department.
The Training and Development Specialist (Rigging) works under minimal supervision referring only exceptional problems for management review or approval.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
- Responsible for the effective supervision of the Rigging Planning Team resulting in the group’s completion of all tasks within schedule, budget and quality commitments.
- Completes subordinates’ annual performance evaluations and makes recommendations to the Rigging Superintendent for promotions, terminations, and other personnel adjustments.
- Responsible for training needs assessments, coordination, content development, delivery and evaluation of all Rigging Certification course material.
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Rigging training content and delivery.
- Responsible for the preparation, verification, and distribution of accurate and timely planning, budgeting, and reporting products, in accordance with rigging department policy.
- Coordinates the implementation of department’s process improvement initiatives.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in business, psychology or related field; or equivalent years of experience.
- Experience teaching in a corporate or industrial setting preferred.
- Experienced in instructional design for adult learning utilizing various delivery methods (i.e., lecture, skill practice, visual aids, practical examples, case studies, PowerPoint etc.).
- Must be flexible and able to adjust work schedule to provide training outside of normal working hours as needed.
- Experience in developing and implementing programs to sustain training concepts.
- Knowledge of training and development concepts.
- Experience in working with all levels of an organization.
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. MS Access a plus.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to climb vertical ladders and scaffolding, and work at heights. Must be physically able to commute to various areas of shipyard. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to dust, welding/burning fumes, and smoke. The noise level is usually moderate to extremely noisy, which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Training and Development Specialist is accountable to the Rigging Superintendent. He/she is an exempt employee and is expected at all times to use discretion, independent judgment and creativity to perform all duties of this position. PAY SCALE
$78,100 - $107,400
This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
