Waterfront Technician

The Waterfront Technician position is unique in that employees will be asked to perform a variety of tasks around the shipyard to include underwater operations, working in adverse weather conditions, working at heights greater than 50 feet, working inside confined spaces, working on system scaffold and ladders, and working on barges, boats or platforms over the water.

The Waterfront Technician job is for a mechanically inclined individual providing routine preventative maintenance to waterfront equipment at the shipyard. Applicants must be able to follow directions with a positive attitude and maintain excellent safety awareness. Areas of work responsibility include but are not limited to: barges, piers, tug boats, oil boom, floating dry dock, graving dock, and sliding ways. Work tasks include but are not limited to: chipping, painting, routine inspections, mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance, welding, burning, grinding, small boat operations, and scuba diving.

Actively participates in continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce cost




• High School Graduate or GED Certificate preferred.

• Must be certified in basic scuba, advanced certifications a plus.

• Must be CPR/First Aid certified or be able to pass within the first 30 days of employment.

• Must be able to pass T1 Welding School within the first 90 days of employment.

• Must clearly understand verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively in English




Three (3) years work experience with good safety, discipline, and attendance records.

Work experience in a mechanical, maintenance, or maritime related industry is preferred.

Any water related or boat related experience should be noted on applicant's resume.

The ability to work with little or no supervision, Excellent attendance/ safety records, Skilled in the use of pneumatic tools and hand tools. Ability to understand verbal and written instructions and to communicate effectively (in English) required.


Additional/Unique Requirements


Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to work all shifts and at heights. Must show at least two years of continuous, stable and verifiable employment.

Construction or manufacturing background preferred and have strong mechanical skills.

Frequent carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, manual dexterity, reaching, seeing, hearing, occasional kneeling, reclining and finger dexterity.

Maintain safety awareness and ability to follow directions.
