Job Summary
Builds and tears down scaffolds, other wooden structures, safety handrails and equipment. Cleans tanks and performs general shipyard cleanup. Sort, inspects and stacks lumber and metal scrap. Operates high reaching equipment and saws. Assists other trades in sea trials and launchings. Moves furniture and other equipment as needed. Performs other related task as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position
Qualifications Standards
Scaffold building experience required. Must have ability to read and write in English and understand verbal instructions. Ability to read a tape measure, operate power tools safely and work at heights below and above 30 ft. are required. High reaching equipment and sky climber certificates are required. Must have ability to work in confined spaces and access and move around ship safely. Must have ability to pass mechanical reasoning, scaffold building and test administered by NASSCO. Must be clean shaven for respirator fit.
Essential Job Tasks
1. Cleans tanks/vessels in confined spaces and performs general shipyard cleaning.
2. Builds and tears down scaffolds and other wooden structures. Builds and tears down safety handrails and other equipment.
3. Operates high reaching equipment, painting and chipping equipment and tools such as saws, drills and chainsaws.
4. Sorts, inspects and stacks lumber and metal scaffold components.
5. Assists trades in sea trials and launchings.

Metal, wood, scaffold sub-section, bolt, clip, handtools, pneumatic tools, high reaching equipment, skyclimbers, painting or chipping equipment, cable lines, rope lines and cleaning equipment
Physical/Mental Involvement
Frequent to continuous lifting of equipment weighing 50 pounds or more. Standing, balancing, walking, climbing ladders or equipment, reaching above shoulder or out in front, manual dexterity, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, crouching, seeing, hearing and occasionally lowering self into confined spaces, crawling through small openings and working in reclined positions, as needed. Works in all areas of the shipyard and on board ships. Hearing warning signals and reading and comprehending safety instructions. Must be able to maintain general safety awareness and avoid hazards commonly present in employee’s work area.
Marginal Job Tasks
Move furniture and other equipment.

Office furniture, file cabinets, dollies and forklifts.
Physical/mental Involvement
Occasional lifting, carrying, climbing, reaching, pulling, pushing, bending, frequent seeing and hearing. Ability to maintain safety awareness and correctly follow roping and tying of
equipment and furniture procedures.
Environmental Factors
Exposure to fumes, odors, dust, gases, various climates and temperatures, and low ventilation conditions, all of which can cause discomfort and/or respiratory difficulties. Exposure to constantly moving machines and mechanical parts and high levels of constant noise and various lighting conditions.
PAYSCALE:
$33.44 - $34.79
This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the hourly range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
